@iplu1: Thanks for kind words, this one was never really finished as I intended to write a rap for the emptier bits but never got round to it, just demoed the outro vox. In retrospect I see it as a B side to the first Samuel Dross album I did.

"Dùchthas" was composed, and recorded by Columbian-American soprano Stephanie Lamprea. The piece is set in Scottish Gaelic, and uses graphic notation and chant-like vocalises to manifest unity between land, creatures, nature and culture.
The recording uses electronics, and to experience the full effect of this it is encouraged to listen using headphones.

THE LYRICS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Dreamers of dreams, maybe not as lucrative as it seems, 
but hey, we have fun, we broaden our minds, 
we make art for the benefit of humankind.  
It's not exactly what you'd call a nine to five, 
making music can sometimes be a long hard drive - 
One week to the next, a fight to survive, 
only making cash if you burn out playing live. 
You ask me why, if Spotify pays shit, 
and I know I'm never gonna have a number 1 hit, 
then why do us music makers do what we do? 
Why not get a real job?

My answer: The dancer needs something to dance to, 
expressing myself is all I know how to do, 
there are things in my head which I need to get out,
and besides, music... could you live without?

we grew this tune especially just for you, 
based on a little ditty by Richard D. James; 
In electronic music, one of the big names. 
Late 1980s, Thatcher's Britannia, 
Poll Tax and division - picture it, can ya? 
Acid house music the people's compania, 
in deepest Cornwall, coming right 'atcha, 
a kid with a dream and a good pair of ears... 
RDJ, Redruth School, the formative years, 
like Kraftwerk in the 70s, a new blank slate, 
an empty plate, new sounds to create. 
From age 12, looking through the Polygon Window, 
causing havoc with the family piano. 
Then synths to distract from Jesus & Mary Chain, 
parents Lornaderek: ("Have a lovely day!")

Come on down and join us at the Gwennap Pit, 
free party, acid rave, it's the real good shit, 
DJing 'Analogue Bubblebath', 
dance music, forging a brand new path. 
Even Greek gods enjoy what they hear, 
hence a box of cat-chewed cassettes (dear, oh dear). 
1985 to 1992, from 'Schottkey 7th Path' to 'Digeridoo'. 
Revolutionize the soundtrack of the comedown, 
ambience and techno have a new crown, 
a different way to the aggro of emo. 
I swear, we've never heard of Brian Eno. 
After this, things will never be the same, 
electronic music game changed yet again. 
And so let a new musical dream begin, 
and everyone please welcome... Aphex Twin.

Back to the bigger picture, I know I sound cringe, 
my tongue in my cheek, but look, here's the hinge...

Submission to Tune Into Nature Prize 2025.
The track is based around the Nightingale song, which I recorded in Spring 2024. Upon hearing the birdsong for the first time, I thought - this really reminds me of the Jungle and Drum & Bass styles I loved as a teenager.
So - I took the recordings home and began working it into a piece of music.  Rhythmical Wood Crickets and Grasshoppers make an appearance as well as ‘cymbals’ made from Marram grass. A lot of the higher percussion is created with snapped dry twigs.
