If you think of the UK’s best techno’s most prolific techno labels, Soma Quality are right there at the top. For the last 25 years Slam’s imprint has put out consistently killer music from some of 4/4’s most leading edge producers, with the likes of Funk D’Void, The Black Dog, Surgeon and Schatrax all making frequent appearances across the imprint’s back catalogue. 

One of their more recent signings is Rebekah, the Birmingham-born producer who first cut her teeth DJing in the late 90s. After a busy touring schedule early on in her career she became a part of Chris Liebing’s CLR label, before Soma picked her up for an EP in 2015. Earlier on this year, they also put out her debut LP Fear Paralysis, an album spanning the breadth of contemporary techno.

Rebekah’s next drop on Soma will be an EP of remixes from Fear Paralysis, with the likes of Slam and JoeFarr reworking some of the album’s best cuts. With their return to Farringdon just around the corner this Saturday, Slam sent us over their hard-hitting remix of Rebekah’s Code Black to premiere ahead of their appearance.

Paula Cazenave is one of Spain’s leading ladies, jet setting around the world and gracing line-ups with the likes of Carl Cox, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, Chris Liebing, Jeff Mills, The Advent and Oscar Mulero, that is just simply scratching the surface.

Paula together with the iconic Gayle San, who has released on her own ‘GSR’ to Phobiq, Naked Lunch and Cari Lekebusch’s H-Productions, have launched their new project and collaboration known as Combine Audio.

The launch release begins with a back to back original track selection that sums up the ethos of the label and what is expected to come in the near future with following releases.

The track we selected for this DT:Premiere is from Paula called “Crickets On Crack” that begins with one of the chunkiest beats this side of the hemisphere. Pure groove fuel for any DJ looking to light up faces on the dancefloor, the edgy, acid-licked lead synths lash the track into shape and seal the deal as this monster grows larger and larger with every listen.

We Are The Brave front man Alan Fitzpatrick provides the labels next release with a typically incendiary two-tracker. Delving deep into his record collection for inspiration, the result is a brace of distinct, ear-catching cuts that tip a hat to by-gone times in rave culture and have returned big reactions from contemporary crowds all summer. 

The aptly titled “They All Called ‘Em Garys” combines droning hardcore hoovers and power piano with Fitzpatrick’s trademark heavy tech funk. While “Rhino” adopts a slung-back groove of resounding bass and tense pads overlaid with a knockout melody that bubbles away before unleashing its full chord progression through an unashamedly epic breakdown.

Drumcode’s youngest rising star, Layton Giordani, exploded on to the scene after his debut album “Where It Begins” back in February, after scoring some of the biggest festivals in Europe this summer, he now returns with an exciting collab titled “Live Again”.

NY born and bred, Danny Tenaglia has always been a true inspiration for Layton since his teenage years, so when the opportunity to collaborate with the fellow NY legend was on the cards, it was a dream come true.

Danny and Layton join forces for the lead track ‘Live Again’. Its deep and dark with a slowly building pad wrapping around a modulating synthetic hook. The dark and effected vocal echo takes the track into a hypnotic vibe.

Cherry Moon, pioneer in the Belgian techno clubscene, was the first big scale club who invited the major techno legends for the first in Belgium. Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Dj Rush, Sven Väth, Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, to name but a few… After it’s closing in 2005, the Cherry Moon heritage stayed alive as an event series with sold-out venues to date. Now Cherry Moon gives birth to their own record label, that will bring big-room techno from national and international artists, upcoming talents, established celebrities and all-time Cherry Moon residents. 

First in line to kick off the brand new Cherry Moon Records is the France based producer [WEX 10]. This talented young blood is no stranger in the scene with several Beatport hard Techno nr.1’s under his belt. Ostgut Ton’s Berghain mix series returns with volume 08 by Fiedel. Available on 12” vinyl are four new exclusive tracks by Electric Indigo, Stefan Rein, rRoxymore and Boris & Fiedel. 

Few figures in Berlin dance music can claim as lasting and multifaceted a presence as longtime Berghain resident Fiedel. A former resident at Berghain forerunner OstGut, the veteran DJ and producer is known by heads for his decades-long influence on left-field techno and bass music in the German capital, particularly as one half of celebrated production duo MMM with Errorsmith, and co-operator of the legendary Wax Treatment parties together with Mark Ernestus of Hard Wax and Basic Channel fame. Indeed, Fiedel’s broad vision of what works on the dance floor is informed by grooves both in and outside the realm of 4/4 – from, acid, electro and jungle to hip-hop, dub und breaks – all subtly present in hybrid forms on previous releases for Ostgut Ton and his own Fiedelone and Fiedeltwo imprints. So it makes sense that the four exclusive tracks he has curated for the 8th edition of the Berghain mix series radiate the same off-kilter, bass-heavy and deep techno sensibility. 

Veteran Viennese producer, activist and DJ Electric Indigo kicks blasts things off with “Registers”, employing her trademark dubby and sample-heavy rhythmic constructions, minor chords and distorted hats. Driving and atmospheric, “Registers” sets the bar high not only for the 12-inch but also as the explosive opener for the mix itself. This is followed on A2 by PURE-TRAXX founder Stefan Rein, whose deep, hypnotic “Panther” transcends techno-tool status with entrancing siren melodies and psychedelic builds and releases. 

French-born, Berlin-based producer rRoxymore takes a sonic left turn on B-Side opener “Tropicalcore”, where bleepy, distorted and complex drum patterns recall both classic DMZ and later post-dubstep funk. Finally, B2 belongs to Fiedel himself, who teams up with fellow veteran Berghain resident and Berlin techno stalwart Boris on “Div’hain”. The track teems with with bubbling bass-lines, cowbells and claps shaped by modular synths, as well as elements of electro and boogie – but jacks hard. It’s a fitting closer to one of the mix series’ most eclectic 12-inches – made by one of Berghain’s most fearless residents.

LENSKE’s first release by Farrago, “Risin”, comes packing high velocity punches, including a collaboration with Amelie Lens and a remix from Kobosil. The EP’s A side is packed near 12 minutes of crisp machine driven techno with Farrago’s rattling peak-time “The Riddler” being the first to puncture. The title track, “Risin”, will only be released as the Kobosil remix, a titanium tour of auditory horrors, which also borrows from the EP’s other tracks. Lens’ signature sultry vocal samples on the B side’s “Jealousy” draw the contours of a jaw grinding banger, while “Hidden Power” rounds out the release with a blaring dance floor siren encased in exquisitely unpredictable arrangement.
