The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of the world's leading orchestras, specialising in period performance. Known for it's innovative concerts, energy and dynamism it is Resident at London's Southbank Centre, has it Headquarters at the new Kings Place development in Kings Cross, London and is also Associate Orchestra at Glyndebourne.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mayuko Akimoto began her musical training at the age of three playing violin and marimba. At the age of ten, she started taking lessons on flute and piano. In 2008, she won the scholarship to study abroad at St. Paul’s School (Concord, NH, USA). After graduating St. Paul’s School with “Magna Cum Laude” honor in 2011, she moved to Germany to study at Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and continued her study in Lucerne, Switzerland with Pirmin Grehl. After successfully graduating with Bachelor of Arts in Music degree, she went on to study with Andrea Lieberknecht at Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in Germany.

Mayuko Akimoto has won numerous prizes including the 4th prize at Kobe International Flute Competition in 2017, special prize "Alice Rosner Prize" for an outstanding interpretation of Heinz Holliger's Sonata (in)solit(air)e at the 64th ARD International Music Competition in Munich(2015), 2nd prize at the 37th National Music Competition in Riddes, Switzerland (2015), special prize at the 69th Geneva International Music Competition (2014), 3rd prize at the National Flute Competition in Golbey, France (2013), and 1st prize at the 11th Japan Junior Wind and Percussion Competition.

In 2009, she was accepted into the Young Artists Orchestra at Boston University Tanglewood Institute and performed at the Tanglewood Music Festival. She was accepted into Boston Flute Academy as one of four Young Artists in 2010 and performed at several concerts hosted by Boston Flute Academy. From 2014, she is a member of Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (German Youth Philharmonic Orchestra). She was a member of the orchestra academy of Lucerne Symphony Orchestra (2016-17) and Pacific Music Festival (2017).

Her former teachers include Kaoru Kitamura, Hideaki Sakai, Masako Hirano, Jean Benson, Judy Grant, Felix Renggli, Jutta Pulcini, and Sabine Morel.

幼少時よりヴァイオリン、マリンバを通じて音楽に親しむ。10歳よりフルートとピアノを始める。2008年成蹊高等学校よりセント・ポールズ・スクール（アメリカ、ニューハンプシャー州）へ両校から奨学金を得て留学。2011年同校を優秀賞(magna cum laude)を得て卒業後、渡独。ドイツ、フライブルク音楽大学にて研鑽を積み、スイス、ルツェルン音楽大学を満場一致の満点で卒業。その後ミュンヘン音楽大学大学院似てアンドレア・リーバークネヒトに師事。

神戸国際フルートコンクール第4位受賞（2017）。第64回ミュンヘン国際音楽コンクール特別賞《アリス・ロスナー賞》受賞(2015)。第69回ジュネーヴ国際音楽コンクールフルート部門特別賞(2014)。第37回スイス・リッド音楽コンクールフルート部門第２位(2015)。フランス・ゴルベーフルートコンクール第３位(2013)。第11回日本ジュニア管打楽器コンクールフルート部門高校生の部金賞。

2009年タングルウッド音楽祭「ヤング・アーティスト・オーケストラ」のオーディションに合格、同プログラムに参加。2010年ボストンフルートアカデミーにヤングアーティストとして合格、同アカデミー主催のリサイタルに多数出演。2014年よりユンゲ・ドイチェ・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団（German Youth Philharmonic Orchestra）団員。2016年度ルツェルン交響楽団オーケストラアカデミー生。PMF（パシフィック・ミュージック・フェスティバル）オーケストラアカデミーメンバー（2017）。
E.パユ、P.L.グラーフ、M.コフラー、W.ハーゼ各氏のマスタークラスを受講。これまでにフルートを北村薫、酒井秀明、平野正子、ジーン・ベンソン、ジュディー・グラント、フェリックス・レングリ、ユッタ・プルチーニ、サビーヌ・モレル、ピルミン・グレール各氏に、フラウト・トラヴェルソをカール・カイザー、マリオン・トロイペル各氏に師事。
