The track is the exact type of future-led d&b that fits Lifestyle so perfectly, with rushy breaks leading into some epic- sounding synths and warped undertow. The main part of the track comes exploding out at you, complete with cataclysmic effects and some seriously fat bass. Ready to tear down any club, Futile is a seriously heavy track for
the end of the year.

Lockjaw emanates from Canberra, but his music transcends nationality and location. Deep, dark and resolutely original, Lockjaw is setting his sights high. The catchy, insistent opening to Big System is only the beginning, with tight kicks highlighting the engineering prowess which Lockjaw also brings to the table.
Things take a dark turning part way through, as the producer guides you through some dank underground tunnels which reek of beats, bass and bashy rhythms. Hard, punishing and uncompromising, this one is set to smash. Futile/Big System show what Lifestyle are all about, and what they are capable of. The title track plays leadoff on the EP, ticking into life before grinding out its gritty existence. Go straight into the heart of the machine, be lead straight into the Shadows. The quality and hard work which Conduct have put into this release is obvious from the get-go, with every sound obviously agonised over for months, but directed straight at your heart and your head. Eternally brings in strings, an effecting piano lead and some more contemplative vibe to create another world. Beauty and emotion in sound for the new year. 
Overstand takes things in a more minimal direction, building gradually into what becomes an all-out, postmodern club banger, with engineering strongly to the fore. This is swiftly followed by Start It, which has a more mysterious air to it, blending some MC rhymes with a stinging, heart-attack kick drum, eerie samples, and slinking, in and out bass pressure. The various tracks on the EP show off Conduct’s ability to mix and blend up the styles, but still keeping a very consistent feel to the release. It fits perfectly with Lifestyle’s vibe of the different and the unusual.

Closer Anything sums up the EP perfectly, showcasing Conduct’s musicality, attention to detail and ability to control anything they lay their hands on. Low-slung, mean and moody, this is the sound which is taking the music forward. Keep an eye out for LFS037, and take a trip into the Shadows.

Following the fiery success of his ‘Warpath’ LP, an immense package of tracks that identified how Maztek was still a mainstay producer within the darker soundscapes of drum & bass, Maztek is about to return. The album broke the news of his 0101 Records label, a base for Maztek and one which hasn’t just showcased his own sonic artillery. It’s also brought in a trove of producers who’ve all shown their flair for electronic music, although only the darker kind which has infiltrated many playlists throughout the European continent, as well as further afield across the Atlantic. And one primary reason for this is how powerful his music has proven to be when flung through stacked speakers, infiltrating even the most niche spaces to cause the upmost chaos on dancefloors.

This next release is Maztek’s first EP for 2019, not only following ‘Warpath’ but also his ‘Uncoded’ release in the latter half of last year. ‘4 the Ravers’ represents Maztek’s background as a DJ, something which he’s just as notorious for as his music, with the producer having travelled extensively with sound systems before he began working within more formal venue settings. Consisting of seven brand new cuts, ‘4 the Ravers’ journeys through an array of styles and delivers you at the helm of his production. From the clapping drums of ‘Wrecktified’, through to the half-time levels of ‘Ghost Track’, Maztek flaunts his versatile style. ‘Ultrafunkular’ lends itself to its name through deliberately placed grooves, whilst lyrical MC Coppa adds his gruff-vocals to ‘Real Mobs’. Maztek’s ‘R4v3r5’ matches the same staunchly honed production as the remaining tracks, then ‘Dngrs’ follows suit in a similar vein, punching hard with every slamming segment. ‘Babylon’ comes through with a speed that tackles you unaware before you’re taken into each seismic build up alongside its dizzying forces. However, it’s not the cookie-cutter shape which some darker producers have a penchant for and it’s complex layering means you’re taken through each lumbering step as the record progresses. Maztek sets out the path of 0101 Records for this year and it’s one which has already had scorching results.

He’s made himself heard already this year and with a release schedule stretching out into the summer, Maztek is about to capitalize on a rocketing launch.

This March, Dutch drum and bass connoisseur Maztek returns to his very own label, 0101 Music, with the whopping 28-track compilation The Blacklist Rewind Catalogue.

Showcasing a mixture of releases from his formative years – dating all the way back to 2012 – and previously unheard VIPs, the new LP serves as a timely primer to the Haarlem DJ/producer’s extensive musical arsenal.

Included in the package are every single one of his past drops on revered label Renegade Hardware, including 2013’s M Theory EP, the critically acclaimed debut album Three Point Zero (2014) and a tag-team remix of “Limber” from late legend Optiv and Brazilian powerhouse BTK, all of which have proven to be fan favourites over the years. With some of these having previously been absent from streaming services and primarily available on vinyl, both die-hard followers and newcomers alike are in for a treat.

First landing exclusively via Maztek’s Bandcamp back in December, this essential collectors’ item has since been fortified with an additional three brand-new VIPs: a slinking reinterpretation of the choppy 2013 neurofunk triumph “iMaz”; a gritty, stuttering overhaul of the 2012 Subculture signing “Up & Down”; and a snarling spin on one of his best-known hits, “From the Shadows”, which features vocal contributions from local hip-hop heavyweights Dope D.O.D.

With Maztek known today not only as a musician but also as a label boss and preeminent purveyor of high-quality D&B, it’s a timely opportunity to reflect on his musical journey up to now. The Blacklist Rewind Catalogue LP lands 15th March via digital vendors and streaming services.

If you take drum & bass back to the early days, when its darker waters were only just beginning to emerge from its junglist roots, names like Maztek and BTK were some of the most coveted within listeners’ record collections. And to this day they’ve still been making their mark, with Maztek launching his own 0101 Records imprint, a label which not only saw him release his last studio LP, but also bring through many artists who’ve been helping to shape his DJ sets globally. Similarly, BTK has continued to rise to prominence, having released a plethora of tracks alongside veteran Optiv as well as crossing over into the world of techno through his slick productions.

This isn’t the first time that Maztek and BTK have brought together their immense skills, having previously released both collaborations and undertaken remixes for each other across the entirety of their careers. Many fans of the pair, who’ve been tracking their progress over the last decade, will be anticipating this next venture from them both. Dropped on Maztek’s own 0101 Records, it sees Maztek’s role of label owner take over and he is now providing a platform for the duo whose journeys have been following similar paths throughout the legendary spheres of drum & bass.

‘Won’t Stop’ has been years in the making, so its progression from dubplate to its long-awaited release will certainly whet the appetites of listeners both old and new. ‘Won’t Stop’ is an anthemic record which shows the roots of Maztek and BTK whilst also taking you into a new world which many newcomers inhabit with their own sounds. This is a sure-fire set driver, the type of track with furious drum patterns and beat relays that bolster any DJ set.

BTK and Maztek take you back to the time where their strain of drum & bass was beginning to take flight, although ‘Won’t Stop’ also moves this into modern day standards and demonstrates why it’s still popular today. It’s another homage to the heritage which Maztek has built, as well as the new age introduced by his label 0101 Records.
