Timmo’s debut Drumcode release ‘We Beat On’ carries a flow through out that gives Timmo his own unique sound that has captured the ears of many highly revered techno DJ’s around the world. Timmo uses hypnotic sounds and phrases whilst he always maintains a thumping techno beat that underlies all the tracks within this EP to maximum effect. Furthermore, there is a ghostly feel amongst Timmo’s tracks that really provide him with his acquired sound, the pads in ‘Canvas’ are a beautiful reminder of this. Timmo also uses strong synth stabs to full effect that juxtapose against the drums to help create the tension and aggression that is present within techno.

Joran van Pol quickly follows up the impressive inaugural release on his own new FADE label with a second sizzling offering. It features more of his techno originals with a remix from Egbert that boosts an already solid package.

This new project from van Pol comes after amassing a fine discography with releases on labels like Minus, Rejected, Sci+Tec and Ideal Audio. As such he has the support of all of Techno’s big hitters who often reach for his tunes and as a DJ he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from Space Ibiza to TimeWarp all behindhim.

Things kick off in stern fashion with the rock solid ‘Awakening’, a supple techno roller with industrial sound designs, desolate synth landscapes and unsettling white noise and muffled voices all urging you to dance. Dutchman Egbert from labels like Cocoon
and Gem then steps up and unhinges the track by layering in nervy pads and urgent synth lines that wrap the whole thing up in a fine sense of tension.

The standout ‘Catalyst’ is the other great offering from van Pol, a beautifully bleak and sleek number with gurgling bass synths, driving drums and flashes of thunder and lightening that really add drama to the whole experience. 

A suspenseful and deep track ‘Denial’ is a bonus Spotify inclusion and Beatport also get an exclusive in the form of a soundscape tool version of Awakening.

This is dark but detailed modern techno and marks a splendid second outing for FADE.

Having thawed the winters chill with his Elements EP earlier this year, SCI+TEC regular Alex Mine returns to warm our bones with his Time Lapse EP, and fresh from being selected as one of the key artists to feature on the label’s 10 Years of SCI+TEC compilation, with his ’Name Of What’ track, the Italian promptly delivers a fresh and weighty new four track selection. 

The title track leads the EP with its huge kick, echoing vocal spikes and synth chords to create a tense but electrifying atmosphere. ‘Egoes’ follows, pushing the tempo with its tight groove and frenzied acid line to create a powerful dancefloor moment. 

From that piercing peak to the dreamy depths of ‘Forth Dimension’ and its delicate, inviting bassline and simple melody. A soothing slice and one that readies us for the rugged tribal stomp of the brilliant and elegantly twisted closer, ‘Krantor’.

Keith Carnal delivers his debut album this month on his new SEC NDº imprint entitled ‘Retrofit’. 

Keith Carnal grew up in a musical home in the northern part of Holland, with techno being the first type of music that made a lasting impression on him. After releases on labels such as ARTS and Affin, Keith launched his own SEC NDº imprint in late 2018 to showcase his atmospheric yet sparkling productions which have been held in high esteem throughout the techno scene for many years. 

After two successful EP’s on the label that picked up support from the likes of Len Faki, Marcel Fengler, Matrixxman and many more, Keith felt that it was time to show what he can do as producer with his debut album being the result: 

"The album, Retrofit, is a reflection of my inspiration based on the music I grew up with. It especially emphasizes on the neo-noir movies and the music that came with those movies. Think of Blue Velvet, Blade Runner, Twin Peaks, True Romance, etc. But it also is inspired on events that took place in my life, think of weekends without sleep and going to parties in Berlin and here in Amsterdam. Clubs like Trouw, Berghain and the Gashouder that helped me in finding the sound I stand for today. But also from my youth where I’d listen to every kind of genre up my attic bedroom, hours and hours each day. “Retrofit” basically means modernising vintage technology. This term really seemed “fit” for what the labels encompasses. The album includes 10 tracks, which go from instrumental to the more club ready kind of tracks. – Keith. 

Our premiere today, ‘Fresh Needle,’ offers up crunchy compositions, sweeping tones and storming synthesis.
