The Burning Bush

Very rushed recording, done in a couple of single vocal takes. It desperately wants a hook but alas it hasn't got one yet.

This was written for a friend and his collabrative writing project based on "the weeping man"; an anonymous figure in a block of flats who other residents always here crying. The lyrics one residents speculation and actions upon hearing this weepy motherfucker.

My first real attempt at recording/mixing/producing/whatever else you call it.

The instrumental is Sage Francis' "Keep Moving" rehashed into a new shape.

Me and my friends we don’t want chaos we just want to be free

Is it so bad to want to take a bit more responsibility?
For the way that we act, the things that we do and for our communities

How can you say we’re the dangerous ones, they’re the ones waving batons and holding prison keys
We’re not the ones you should fear, we’re the only ones fighting your side
When one million marching will do nothing more than tell ‘em in hindsight we shouldn’t have gone to war 
When will you wake up, we’re not your enemy

When every one of your hard fought rights is a product to be sold
You took them for granted but people died for every one I’m told
And all each one was was a little bit more rope that’s beginning to wrap round your throat
Will you help us tear the gallows down or let yourself choke?

We’re not the ones you should fear we’re the only ones fighting your side
When they’ll shoot a man down with impunity, and slaughter civilians when they’re overseas 
When will you wake up, we’re not your enemy.

We’re taught to strive to climb as high as you can on that social scale
Taught to compete and to trample the weak and despise the poor and the frail
And if we succeed then we’ll get to breath the rarefied air at the top
But I don’t want to trample anybody nor be trodden on

So put down the paper, turn off your T.V. come look outside and pretty soon you’ll see 
Just who is your real enemy 

I know you think we’re just violent thugs who want to smash up the system
Or petulant kids with chips on our shoulder and nothing better to do
But at worst it’s naïve to think things could be, 
a little bit fairer and a little bit more free,
In a world not ruled by big companies, 
And eventually to have a society without hierarchies

Mc Amalgam started to rap 13 years ago, and he’s been  writing for even longer. At 29, he accumulates a stage experience with his various bands counting over 600 concerts altogether. After more than a decade playing in various formations (hip-hop, ska, drum and bass…), he is now performing solo or with his band Will Tun & The Wasters (ska-folk-rap-gypsy). Skilled writer (in French), his lyrics speak mostly about self-introspection, activism, philosophy and sociology. Alternating an incisive and sharp hip-hop flow with a more transcendental ragga one. Slow bpm, techno, hardcore, trip-hop, Mc Amalgam can rap pretty much over anything, Skill acquired after years of stage experiences as a free party MC, a live band singer, a hip-hop activist........ His various influences and my many stage experiences helped him become a complete artist..
