Searcher's Bio:
This Asturian (from Asturias, a province situated in the North of Spain) has been working as a DJ for more than 25 years. Avid collector of vinyl records, he owns one of the most select collections of his homeland, having been in possession around 14000 vinyl records, his strong point being all of the variations within minimal.

Grant Dell - Ain´t Givin

The track sounds so fresh and timeless even though it was produced 2004, it's like you can visit the young Grant Dell through a curtain of time, watching him dig through vinyl in the mighty SWAG Records in Croydon South London. In these days he produced that true house music anthem, a reflection of the musical essence of this time which defined the sound of the Underground London scene. This track was found again on an old DAT tape which transports us back to that era on every listen. It’s a unique time capsule which contains the taste of the past but owns the force to move the future.

A Lana is the thirteenth guest of MISS DREAMZCAST, our weekly series celebrating the DJs we love as they grace us with the music that makes us smile and gets us dancing.

Alana Jordan, known by her artist name A Lana, is a brooklyn based deejay and talented up & comer in the New York City underground dance music scene. From her well-loved residency sets for the Flux party at bushwick staple-venue Bossa Nova Civic Club, to appearances at some of Brooklyns bigger clubs like Public Records, she has stood out for her deep & careful selection, symbolic storytelling, and sharp technical skill. All her sets are strictly vinyl, and her record collection runs the entire rainbow of dance music, but with firm roots in classic, uplifting house and disco. It comes as no surprise then, that her style is self-described as "always reaching deeper & deeper".

A few words about the mix: "this is my first true studio mix in a couple years, and it comes at a time when the existence and fabric of the things we cherish are increasingly threatened. I wanted this mix to reflect where I'm at as an artist in terms of technical development, but much more importantly, I set out to play songs that embody the freedom, togetherness and love that have always been the pillars of the dance music world. MISS DREAMZCAST 013 A Lana

Recorded live at H0l0 NYC on Wednesday, March 19th. 

Co/Function 30 - with Tomas Station, Gamma Vibes, Lauren Yoon, TJ McAu, Taboh

Co/Function is a recurring monthly event series focused on live electronic music & visuals. The audience is invited to experience an exercise in experimental improvisation that is rarely seen in the dance music world. Creators & conductors Brian Thabault & TJ McAu curate a constantly rotating cast of up to 8 musicians to collaborate & improvise live. The participants are sometimes familiar friends, or have perhaps never met. Either way, there is no rehearsal. The individual artists are linked together by a common midi clock, using DJ mixers to blend together synths, drum machines, traditional instruments and their own vocals. Setting up in the center of the main room at H0l0, they navigate with their eyes and ears through a sonic landscape of bleeps, bloops, booms & baps. Riding the waves of euphoric beat, they explore the eternal loop, bringing life to each new song in the moment, along with the movement of the crowd. The nature of the artistic approach is informed by jazz greats & jam bands, all ran through the filter of our shared electronic music language.

The night begins with solo live performances by the featured artists, leading into 1.5 hours of fully improvised jamming by the residents and guests. For the remaining 1.5 hours from 12:30-2 the stage is opened up to welcome any comers to plugin their instruments and equipment for the "open jam" portion of the night. The entire experience is enhanced visually by a rotating cast of VJs and visual artists following a similar philosophy and configuration.

This is a musical experience more akin to The Acid Tests than the format of a modern DJ night. There is no function like the Co/Function.

The Wash

<tfo>'s debut album surface_sounds intertwines melodic textures and down-tempo grooves.  It can be enjoyed as 21st century make-out music, the perfect soundtrack for a dimly lit lounge.  Beyond this, the album conjures a more unique, unnamable environment, sometimes sleepy, sometimes spooky, usually sexy, and invites the listener to linger there for a while.
  In the making of surface_sounds, <tfo> combined expertly crafted synth sounds and uniquely programmed rhythms with violin, viola, harmonica, percussion, and vocals.  In the post-modern tradition of the great Brian Eno, the listener cannot always tell what is "live" and what is sampled; the actual identity of an instrument may also be difficult to discern, as every element is subsumed in the confident vision of <tfo> mastermind Timothy O'Keefe.  Tim's interest in electronic music began with programming sounds into his now-antique Casio1000 at the age of 14, after being inspired by the synthesizer-driven music of the 80's.  A passion for the flourishing world of house music and electronica soon followed, and in the early 90's Tim organized some of the first raves in the Northeastern United States, booking international talent for his Rave Called Quest warehouse events.  In 1994, Tim became a touring keyboardist for the electronic/pop band The Waterlillies (Kinetic/Sire), which led in turn to a stint in New York City working for Kinetic Records and absorbing the vibrant music scene, as well as the culture of business and the business of culture.  In 1996 he returned to the relative quiet of Providence in his native state of Rhode Island, to develop his artistic and production skills away from the hubbub.
  Taking up residence at the internationally recognized arts space AS220, Tim quickly became, and has remained, one who makes things happen in and outside of Providence.  He was the curator of Frequency Lounge, a monthly multi-media showcase that hosted renowned performers like Austrian electronic music pioneer Joachim Rodelius, Kid Clayton, The Silver Apples, and Sonic Boom.
  Tim's musical collaborators have been many and varied, including Joachim Rodelius (Cluster, Cluster & Eno), Oliver Chesler (Things to Come Records), Aaron Spectre (Moonbunny Records), and Denard Henry (Cipher Productions).  He has also created music for the Playstation2 game "Frequency", for the 2001 MTV Music Awards, and for a variety of film and theatre productions, including puppeteer Heather Henson's "Migrations".  More technical credits include remixing material for Network recording artist Erin McKeown, and creating drum tracks for Johnny Vicious.  Tim's solo work has been written up in the July 2003 UK and the August 2003 Spain issue of Future Music Magazine, and popped up in various independent films and documentaries including Miquel Coyula's "The Plastic Fork", winner of Best Soundtrack at the Cineplaza Film Festival in Havana, Cuba, 2001.

I Remember You

This track was composed and recorded in 1996 using an Emu-Emax sampling keyboard, Korg Polysix, Roland MC202, Roland TR909, Roland TR707, Yamaha Pro-mix 01 Mixing board, and a couple of effects pedals.  The TR909 was used as the sequencer, triggering the samples on the Emax while the TR707 and MC202 were synced using using their internal sequencers.  The Polysix was triggered by the TR909, and the both the MC202 and Polysix were rhythmically gated within the Pro-mix 01 by different drum tracks.  It was recorded in one single take.
