'ISAM' - Full album with track-by-track commentary from Amon Tobin

I had a moment of obsession with automatons, mechanical music machines, and wind-up sound devices. I designed an instrument that would allow me to control speed and variation of specific rhythmic subdivisions and notes with my fingers. I then recorded my first improvisation with the new instrument. Most of this piece is from that first improvisation. I then arranged and layered some vintage sounding string, wind, horn, and voice instrument parts (Mellotron and Chamberlin)to create a refrain. I added live brushes, cymbals, and background noise and re-recorded the bell sounds through an old 1959 Ampex tube amplifier/speaker that I have and love to use. I really like how some mechanical devices like music boxes and the like have some anomalies that make the tempo vary and bobble along depending on the condition of the mechanical parts or life of the battery. This piece is performed that way and I tried to leave the imperfections as a feature. I truly hope it brings your day something new! A Series of Fortunate Events perhaps? Cheers...

On The Road (It Ain't Easy)

My album Bird Strings was created to be played with the songs in sequence, so some of them fade into others. AFib parts 1 and 2 were one piece of music for which we created 2 index points on the CD. This was so people could play one section or the other if they so desired. Thanks for listening!

So tired of being honest, but if I’m honest with myself, I was in charge of a revolution but fuck I chose myself instead. now I sing along to no one, better than talking to myself about my past and present tensions or counting down those glory days...and I’m fine with it. So sick of the emotion, can we have silence for a bit? (hell. no.) I know it’s hard just to be human but I embrace what I can’t change. like the time I prayed for my son in the first church I could find, St. Ignatius are you listening? it was hell but we’re alright. and I’m fine with it. back when it was “me before” everyone. You had a way of getting in the way. I know you could have been with anyone. you're a saint because you stayed. ("don't screw it up"). nothing is perfect, nothing will ever be. All of my mistakes they lead me to you and our house in the suburbs, 2 kids, a 9-5.
