Before MCKENZIE & GARDINER there was THE CLASS OF '78, a funk band of schoolmates from Southall, West London.  I wrote this song aged 16 to express how it felt when you're in a multiracial relationship and everyone is against you. Earl and I worked for months to pay for our first ever studio session at Airport Studios in 1980 where we recorded 3 tracks in 1 day. We were young and inexperienced teenagers and played live so the results are raw and sometimes sloppy but I've dusted off the cobwebs and sharing CHESSMATES for the very first time. This one will get an "OG Redux" soon.
