DJ Peg’s heart was in Hip-Hop from an early age.  When mixtapes were still tapes (cassettes!), Peg began creating mixes and passing them to friends. Time, opportunity, and his longstanding support of local Hip-Hop artists soon garnered DJ Peg gigs all over Seattle, and his reputation for spinning the best Hip-Hop, R&B, and Old School cuts began to precede him.  Today, Peg is the catalyst for the party at some of the biggest events and hottest venues in the greater Seattle area.

Gloomy City Music is a two-man Hip-Hop group from the Pacific Northwest with both a sound and a story that aren’t seen much in today’s rap scene. Comprised of producer/lyricist Spencer R. and lyricist Mike C., Gloomy City Music has been working deep in the underground since the late 1990s, recording lo-fi homemade tracks that connected with listeners immediately. Now, GCM is stepping out into the sunshine with its first official release, Gloomy City Music, that’s set to drop on June 7th, 2019 on all major platforms. The sound of the record is ferocious, drawing upon influences from the 90s to the early 2000s, but flows in a unique musical and poetic direction.

Spencer and Mike made a conscious decision to craft tracks that don’t sound like anyone else and that deal with atypical subjects. Gloomy City Music takes on topics including social injustice, mental health awareness, and feeling good on a perfect Summer day. Traces of artist like E-40, UGK, Scarface, Mac Dre, Eightball & MJG, Devin the Dude, Dr. Dre, Mac Mall, and Too Short can be detected but Gloomy City Music has made important creative choices that keep its music far from the shadow of imitation. Both men thrive on the expression that making music allows them and they want to speak messages that could help other people. Gloomy City Music is one of the most vital emerging groups on the West Coast right now, representing the Pacific Northwest as well as one possible future for Hip-Hop. True funky aficionados need to hear these tracks tonight.
