Zero Plague - another neurovision broadcast by replicant agent MANASYt. The opener - is a dystopian death march anthem, guided by a rolling snare, thick kick, and throbbing bass. Arpeggios sounding like wasps on acid hover in the background, adding to the atmosphere of imminent danger!

Angellust - a hectic breathless industrial electro monster. Fuzzy distorted bass is driving us through a dark desolate territory. Complete with chaotic claps, minor synth stabs, a siren-like clinical pad, and Petar’s hopeless vocals (reminiscent of his days fronting metal bands).

Next is the Pestilent Mix for SNS Sensation new wave masterpiece “Mirror Radio”. Sebastian is also the voice of UK duo Heartbreak (with synth wizard Ali Renault). Petar says: “It’s a very impulsive work that sounds nothing like the original! Blending two different beats, mangled voices, and psychotic off-kilter leads. Total madness.”

First on the flip is the Novichok Mix for Poladroïd. Petar and Vadim go way back to Roulette Rekordz in 2003, so this collab is natural, to say the least. It’s the only time where the tempo slows down a bit on this EP. Bubbling worm-like bass, metallic percussion, cold windy pads, and a classic electro lead take you on a journey to a soulless barren planet.

At last “In Deep Tongues”. A heady schizophrenic exercise. A commanding beat and a grotesque polka bass followed by a paranoid synth lead pull you through a darkened maze with no exit. Underwater gurgles and fearsome corroded effects fill the air, no escape!

After 20 years, MANASYt hasn’t slowed down or mellowed his intense immoderate sound one bit! And “Zero Plague” is undoubtedly a true testament to that!

Sharing the same forward-facing approach to techno music, it was about time that Roman DJ and producer Adiel lands her debut EP on Stroboscopic Artefacts. Just a few months on from the drop of the label’s anniversary compilation ‘X – Ten Years of Artefacts’, featuring the broadest array of talents including Rrose, Shifted, Efdemin, Denise Rabe, Chevel, Lucy and more, the timing couldn’t be better for both her and Lucy’s mind-expanding visions to unify.

Following on from an array of 12-inches on her own imprint, including a recent joint effort with Anthony Linell, ‘If Not Now When?’ is an ode to the all-enveloping strangeness of eternal nights that cuts a path of ecstatic light in the dark. Breaking the ice, the title-track plunges us in an effervescing pool of menacing reverbs, bloopy signals and rippling synth tides on a murky tip, while its faster and sharper twin ‘At The Bottom Of The Sea’ vigorously ups the ante to ensure optimal peak time firepower.

Flip sides and here’s ‘If Not Me Who’ diving even deeper into tape-echo’ed bizarro, swashing back and forth from blunt lo-freq frenzy to liquid-like levitation. ‘ESRR’ rounds off the package on a further freaky note, merging heavily processed vocals and swampy, octave-shifting keyboard movements to form a slice of wild, cross-pollinated electronics laid upon a much enticing techno swing. The very epitome of surgically executed dance music with a fascinatingly soulful, nearly shamanic edge to it.

Having not really thought about it, it's a bit of a surprise that there are only a handful of records in our digital catalogue that are collaborative projects. FKOFd020 reimagined FKOFd006 with four different remixers, FKOFd030 was four tunes from four artists, we've had one or two collabs or remixes dotted about. But it wasn't until Roklem & Sebalo's FKOFd039 that we properly got a release that ably demonstrated the skills of more than one producer on a record. As it happens, our next digital EP is more of that vibe. Four tracks (and one free download) from two artists from different sides of the planet.

"'FKOFd045' came about in a pretty FatKidOnFire family way. I had been chatting to @11th_Hour as we prepped his solo debut and he recommended a Rottterdam-based artist called @Crowley_nl. Having not come across his tunes before, we got in touch - as it happens, Olaf's based in the RTM so turns out there was common ground. Sven sent some tunes over and a collab with @e_s_p_beats - who's based in Australia - caught my ear. One thing led to another, and here we have our next release. 

"We open with Crowley's 'Stoic', which sets the tone for what follows. Swing, vibe and a whole lot of groove. It launches with atmospheric horns before rolling into a stripped-back stepper affair. Check the second drop for the rowdiness. Next up, we've the aptly-titled 'Luz:Daze Dub'. Think 4am on a summer's morning as the sun starts to rise, or last tune to wrap a proper night at the West Indian Centre. Banger. We then move into the collab tune, 'Rosetta', which takes things down a notch and brings back the grime. This is old/ new school bassweight at its best. One for the subs. As is 'Jah', the final tune on the EP - and e s p's solo effort. Beats, bass and space with much of that groove that really defines this record. If you enjoy these four, you'll likely dig e s p's 'Molotov', which we're giving away to celebrate the EP. Sound system music, as you know we do. Out to Crowley and e s p!

Premiere: Fergus Sweetland "Pseudo V2" (Vil Club Mix) - HAYES

Patiently stood on the side of the street awaiting pickup, bags and boxes fluttered in the wind like the nerves tingling in their stomach. The van pulls up and the chariot awaits. 2009 Ford transit, alloy wheels and the smell of old Amber Leaf. Fill it to the brim with everything you own, with the ambition that a change of scenery will create success. An intense journey lay ahead, packed full of commercial radio and drive-thru stops but they'd eventually reach their new-found haven.

The next output from Lithuanian label Le Temps Perdu welcomes the return of Multi Culti’s co-captain Dreems. Sticking to the aquatic themes that he’s become synonymous with, his newest body of work Shark Water explores his previous career paths as a deep sea commander and dolphin communicator. The standout track ‘The Dolphin Communion’ delicately marries the spoken words of highly respected marine scientist John Sea Lilly with enticing grooves, diaphanous chords and punchy minimalistic drums.

Scientific Dreamz Of U debuts on Pinkman's Broken Dreams white label series. Merging elements of punk-tinged industrial and atmospheric mutant techno, "Self Assembly Of Myriad Heterostructures" spins the listener into a swarming vortex, where a blistering array of harsh tones oscillate between deteriorating vocals. On the flip, the record includes a remix by Pinkman favorite Mick Wills and a forward driving Dance Mix. Limited to 100 copies, for the true night-wanderers out there.

"Our resident A&R manager Olaf (you may know him as Korrupt or Signalfire) is known for his moments of brilliance in the FKOF Records team - finding diamonds in the rough in places no-one else was looking. Slava, aka q100, is one of these absolute gems. We signed this release back in August, and its 4 tunes have been a staple draw on our monthly FKOF Sessions shows on Subtle Radio ever since. Cold, dark, brooding 140bpm material that cuts like we like it. This is FKOFd048.

"We launch the EP with 'Coleslaw', which (if you ask us) is definitely not the pickled cabbage it might sound like it is. It's beats, bass and space. And it absolutely bangs. Next up, we have 'Cuticle' - which continues where the EP opener left off. This is rolling subs, punchy kicks and crisp atmospherics. It also happens to be the first tune that caught Olaf's ear and led to this release. Track three, 'Steppin', is (for us, anyway) the standout tune on the record. It does exactly what it says it will. If Slava keeps building tunes like this, you'll be hearing a lot more from the Estonian producer. Last, but definitely not least, we have 'Yasno'. FKOFd048 closes with the darkest of the four tunes, all horror story vibes and about as stripped back as you can get before complete nudity. It's a lot - one for the dark times.
