Since 1981, New Hampshire Public Radio provides local and national news to the Granite State and beyond. NHPR is broadcast from 12 different sites, making it by far New Hampshire’s largest (and only) statewide radio news service. Texas Folklife is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the diverse cultures and living heritage of the Lone Star State. Since 1984, Texas Folklife has honored cultural traditions passed down within communities and explored their importance in contemporary society. Austin—as you've no doubt heard before—is the Live Music Capital of the World. A whole network of celebrated institutions dot the map of the city's famous music scene and these places have become the well-loved and well-chronicled musical heart of the city.

But beyond this known map are the vibrant musical margins: the front porches and backyards, dive bars and churches, garages and community centers where people make music in a more communal and informal way.

The Austin Music Map is a participatory documentary media project that explores Austin's diverse sonic geography, creating portraits of the interesting, surprising, and unexpected venues & spaces where musical communities gather. 

Anyone can contribute to this project by submitting audio, photos, and video collected at musical spaces—formal and informal alike—around the city.
