Meat Katie -  Lowering The Tone - Episode 16 (with Evil 9 interview)

Elite Force aka Simon Shackleton has had an extensive career spanning over 20 years. Starting off as a musician and being a band member with Thom Yorke before moving onto his own outfit called Lunatic Calm which had quite a successful career and a few number one tunes including "Rollercoaster". Simon has also worked with a bunch of top acts, remixed, wrote movie soundtracks, toured and was one to watch in the Nuskool Breaks scene. He then developed the Tech Funk genre in the late 2000's included with such artists as Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes to name a few. Nowadays Simon plays marathon 6 hour LIVE sets in his "One Series" and has moved into the world of professional photography.

Im pleased to give you Episode 18 of the Lowering The Tone podcast. 

This time round I had the pleasure to sit down with Ant Wilson Aka 'Chicago Loop' and have an in-depth chat about starting your career again from scratch, life after the London Acid Techno scene and naming himself after a ring road in America.

As I have mentioned before these are not so much of an interview more of just a laid back conversation that veers off in all directions, thats is the charm though IMO, listening back to this one I think it will appeal to DJ’s who wish (and do) travel because Ant is a well seasoned DJ who has some great stories of his on the road experiences around the globe, I found his story petty inspiring I hope you do to.

As you should expect by now I explore many genres mix wise but keeping it Techy based. As promised in the show I will bring back the ‘Deeper Selection’ next episode.

Meat Katie 'Lowering The Tone' Episode 18 (with Chicago Loop Interview)

Elite Force aka Simon Shackleton has been in the electronic music scene for well over 15 years from his early beginnings in a band (Headless Chickens) with the well known Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame to his early electronic music beginnings with Lunatic Calm. Elite Force is a true professional which has seen him tour on every corner of the globe and gather a large fan base over the years. 

This LIVE mix was recorded at the Breakspoll awards back in 2011, right around the time the Tech Funk Breaks genre was gaining momentum. Elite Force won 2 Breakspoll awards that night, one for Best Producer and one for Best Label (for his highly regarded U&A imprint). The mix itself is a great journey of breakbeat music and one of the stand out sets of the night.

Released Music on R&S, Kingsize, Bedrock, Yoshitoshi, Mo Wax, Toolroom, Global Underground, SAW recordings, to name but a few.

Remixed such artists as James Zabiela, D-Nox & Beckers, Deep Dish, Lee Coombs, Stephane K, Phil Kieran, U.N.K.L.E 

He has run (as a label manager/A+R & recording artist) the highly influential LOT49 & Whole 9 Yards (W9Y) imprints.

In June 2013 Mark started a Podcast series ‘Lowering The Tone’ which in 2016 morphed into a Progressive Techno Label.

He now records exclusively for Lowering The Tone and is currently working on his fourth artist album, he still hosts Lowering The Tone podcast & also co-hosts ‘Setting The Tone’ (Podcast) with Ben Coda.
