Electronic Underground – Volume 1

Volume 1 marks the debut compilation from Electronic Underground, bringing

together 13 tracks that span the wide spectrum of underground electronic music. From progressive and oldschool-leaning electro to raw techno, breakbeat, ambient and noise, the release captures the label’s core ethos: to celebrate diversity within electronic subgenres and provide a platform for emerging voices.


DJ Unisex is an interdisciplinary DJ, Producer and Label Chief originating from Dessau (Germany). After international performances in Mexico, Switzerland and the Netherlands he released music on several labels, such as Distritio 91, P.A.C. Recs, Get Busy and Voragine. While his production style is heavily influenced by the sound of Old-School Electro and Dutch Westcoast synthesizer experiments, his DJ sets combine it all with a hefty preference for harsh Acid Lines and catchy synth rhythms. 
Since 2020 he is co-running the record label Self Learning System. In 2025 he started a residency on Callshop Radio, called Across The Hiss, showcasing a variety of different genres.

I'm just a music lover who likes to share what he likes.

I like to travel through various genres. For me music is a journey and I don't like to get stuck on one place. Currently, I just make some selections.

♥ Can you share with us the genre.s/artist.s/label.s/place.s or event.s which may has influenced and/or that may played a role in your music practice today ?

Hip Hop is the the only genre I've never stopped listening. My first raves were Techno, I was a D'n'B freak for a while and had a House period as well.
I've always preferred mainly "black" music - Funk, Afrobeat, etc. Big fan of Cumbia and French Caribbean sound. Liked Ninja Tune and Amon Tobin back in the day, Tru Thoughts and Quantic after that. Soundway and Daptone records are also favorite labels. I've had quite a few years without any electronics at all so now I'm still catching up, actually.

♥ Which genre.s/artist.s/label.s/event.s are more relevant to you nowadays ?

I prefer slower paced industrial sound these days. Percussive/experimental bass and dub sound as well, and weird shit. A bit tired from the Electro. Big Science Records, Notte Brigante and Ethos Records are my favorite labels currently. Artists worth mentioning are Gil Barte, Lostsoundbytes, Marshall Applewhite, Poladroïd, Manasyt, Simon Grab, Dhangsha, Jauzas The SHining, Tslasonic and, of course, Alexandre Gand (Le Syndicat Electronique).

For our next physical release, FERMA welcomes back home one of the individuals running the project, Romphea. 

As a co-founder, he has long shaped the label’s uncompromising DIY ethos—placing experimentation, raw energy, and community at the heart 
of its vision. After releasing in a series of acclaimed platforms, the forward-thinking DJ and producer from Vyronas, Athens returns to vinyl with 
a genre-defying release. Building on the experimental pulse and reshaping the edge between electro, breaks and techno, Romphea continues that trajectory, 
weaving together tense polyrhythms, warped melodic fragments, and cavernous spaces.

This release features four, plus three digital bonus original tracks, aiming to provide a clear sound identity for the artist. The A-side opens with “Calls from Salem”, a dystopian slow burner that sets the tone with broken-beat percussion and dissonant synth stabs. “Steel Chair” surges forward with unrelenting force, propelled by serrated arpeggios and a barrage of fragmented vocals that rise and fall within the space, crafted for peak-time eruption.

Flipping to the B-side, “Paid Dividends” reaches full intensity, layering hammering kicks and percussion, while the low end rumbles with tectonic weight, amplifying the energy to fever pitch. Closing the record on a more contemplative note, “We Are The Universe” slows the pace, easing the tension and drifting into deeper territory. Echoing chords drift into space, layered with fragile percussive details and low, throbbing pulses. It’s a meditation on collapse and renewal, offering a moment of breath after the storm.

Extending beyond the physical record, this release comes with three extra digital exclusives. "Moonlighting" is another dancefloor stomper, 
capturing the tension and guiding dancers into a space where time dissolves, while in "Keygen Music", the rhythm remains grounded, but it is softened by melodic fragments that swirl in and out like fleeting memories. The release closes with "The 286 Theory" as a fierce statement: a four-to-the-floor cut, with layers of percussion that drive the groove forward, bringing the record full circle.
