For the first time, an international conference bringing together young African scholars in the field of information and communication sciences focused on the current challenges of media development in conflict zones in Africa. After a first stop in Nairobi from 23 to 25 March, 2022, the Abidjan conference was centered on French-speaking Africa from 27 to 29 April, 2022. Some thirty panellists, doctoral students and researchers in the early stages of their careers, from 20 different countries, mainly from Africa, came to shed light on their research.

MEDAS 21 is a postgraduate programme that ran from 2018 to 2023. It focuses on different aspects of international media development assistance in the 21st century, at the intersection of academic theory and practical application. The program’s academic home are three institutes of the University Alliance Ruhr (Erich Brost Institute, IfM Bochum and IfK Duisburg-Essen) with perspectives combining journalism studies, media studies and communication studies.
