This year I was magically inducted into one of the best music festivals in North America (in my opinion), BC Canada's very own Shambhala Music Festival. I recently found my live set and decided to post it up for free download, especially since I was getting so much fanmail and buzz about that particular set. Huge love to everyone who was there and to everyone who listens to this. Shouts to Thriftworks, his team,  & the Shambhala and Amphitheater Stage crews for deciding to put your boy, the me, up on that stage instead (Thriftworks couldn't make it due to border issues so they booked me with a week to spare).

Another week, another release on our mix series! This week we're graced by the auditory presence of BläpDëli, AKA Emmett Kai, out of the Bay Area. This might be a name you are familiar with, as he's collaborated with Thriftworks in the past and recently self-released his Lush EP. This mix is full of unreleased fire from him that is more uncharacteristic (in the best way possible) from his published releases that are available online. We recently had him up to Portland in July to play our monthly event at the Liquor Store, and it was definitely one of the better shows we've had. This dude knows how to get a party going off. Halloween @ The Rattle

Since the dawn of time, humans have told stories. Through cave drawings, dance and music over open fires, we have told stories as a way to shape our existence. The elements of a story - a beginning, middle and end - are often the same, but as humans we each offer a unique perspective which shapes how a story is relayed. Sapien is a story teller, combining elements of the ancient past, the living present and the technological future, carefully constructed into frequencies that resonate on a level that transcends language, and is left to each person to interpret in a way that is unique to their own self in that specific moment of time.

This particular story was recorded at midday on Saturday at Strawberry Fields Festival 2016 on the banks of the Murray River, deep in the Australian bush and is told via a selection of music from various styles, fused with some unreleased original productions.

On top of music production and DJing, Sapien has recently teamed up with Lostinsound as a representative for the Australian scene, providing content to the website and giving the readers exposure to some of the unique sounds coming from down under.

Sapien - Live at Strawberry Fields 2016 (LostinSound.org Exclusive Mix)

There are few producers in the world of underground bass and dubwise music working today with the breadth, depth, and genre-busting powers of Ognjen Zecevic, the man called Egoless.  From post-everything blasts of wonky crunch & bass, to the most sparkling, orthodox reggae, his mastery of analog and digital production, and his free-roaming imagination and intuition make every Egoless plate a special, surprising, and rewarding experience.  

We’ve been holding this tune for some time… we kept it back as we knew right away it was fully deserving of the #50 spot in our catalog, a release we’ve been steadily working towards for a full 5 years.  It exemplifies what we have tried to build with ZamZam - a body of forward thinking heart and soul music, message music, physical music, sound system music.

For "Non-Immigrant Song” the Croatian Gorgon linked with rising sing-jay star Tenor Youthman (virtually unknown outside of his native Russia when the tune was recorded).  Egoless says "It was one of those moments when I received a message and some tunes from a guy in Russia, expecting the worst English ever... Oh how I was wrong, this guy blew me away with the natural organic quality of his voice and we did this tune shortly afterward.”

The lyric was extremely relevant when we first heard it, but we could not have imagined how relevance would turn to urgency with the rise of anti-immigrant extremism, Brexit, Trumpism and full-blown fascist infections spreading in so many parts of the world.  A plea to all those who lose touch with our humanity when we treat anyone as ‘other’ - native-born as immigrants, immigrants as refugees, refugees as less than human.

As for the music… an effortlessly swinging, massive rub-a-dub riddim in classic formation.  Buttery bass and thick kick hitting hard in unison.  Sparse and spare. Strictly analog effects and flawless instrumentation.  We asked Egoless for a truly OUT dub version to back the vocal, and he obviously didn’t disappoint - absolute desk & tape madness in the tradition of the most dub-me-crazy Ariwa or Black Ark meltdowns.

We couldn’t be more thrilled with this record and this milestone arrived at through so much work and so much support from our worldwide community.

He recorded two crucial tunes on the so called "Bad From Riddim" during his 3 months stay in Kingston/Jamaica 2008/09. I recorded at Swallofield at Wheelers Kitchen in a huge recordingsession like 28 hours. Lot's of Singers just passing thru or/and came by the invitation of Selectah Easy T Jam to this place. 
We had nough green around to make and put some signs to europe into the sky.

Lots of other recordings for Mungos Hifi, Jahtari, coming Esperanza label and several Dubplate Killas has been recorded.
