We are on a mission to improve the way the rest of the world views the city of Cleveland, and the Midwest ass a whole by exposing people within region to alternate cultures. The Sleeps' most modern incarnation consists of Ricky behind the drum kit (and other percussive contributions), and Andrew, strumming the bass guitar, while providing vocal lyric and melody.

On record and on stage, The Sleeps' sonic aesthetic might be best described as a sort of rough and fuzzy, melancholic alt-rock, with reflections of harmonizing and mostly-indistinct vocal reverberations filling in the gaps.

The duo's latest release, "Lack Of Meaning - EP," is a brief collection of self-produced songs, that has its punchy, yet musically-melodic moments, while lyrically, the album touches on some of the more depressive themes of a life seemingly gone awry: moral and spiritual despondences, questions of self-worth, relational disgusts and self-disappointments, low expectations and low esteems, and just a general focus on some of the under-whelmingly, mundane occurrences of every-day goings-on...

But rest assured, the dreariness and lowly, foggy feelings seem to have lifted a bit for the band. The Sleeps report that new compositions in the works tend to occupy a lighter space in the realm of songwriting for them. No need for the hopes to be raised, though; "Sunshines Of The Year" is no title they'll be awarded anytime soon. [journalist humor]
