Vessel Records return with a release featuring Purveyors of Fine Funk, Politics of Dancing, Rhymos and James Barnsley.
Helmed by Back To Basics resident James Barnsley, it’s safe to say Vessel Records know exactly what they’re doing with their initial five releases including names such as Daze Maxim, Burnski, DJ Honesty, Laura Jones and Diego Krause. The label’s excellent discography continues in their sixth release with Dan Curtin under his Purveyors of Fine Funk moniker – highly regarded for early releases on Peacefrog, Nepenta, and more recently Bass Culture.
Politics of Dancing, known separately as S.M.A.L.L & PACO, are the Parisian duo behind their fast- rising eponymous label, whereas British talent Rhymos has quickly garnered a reputation for his compelling productions on the likes of Overall Music, Whistleblower Records and murmur. Joined by Barnsley himself, this four-track release demonstrates each artist in fine form.
Purveyors Of Fine Funk’s ‘Depth of Bass’ is a raw sounding cut with ethereal atmospherics and moody chord sequences. James Barnsley is next with his deep and trippy number titled ‘She not Fast’ before Politics of Dancing merge intricate percussion with rumbling bass in their mesmerising ‘Queens Road’. Tying things together, Rhymos gets rhythmic with ‘Jazz Hand’ featuring acid licks and echoing effects.
Various Artists ‘Down to Business Vol.1’ drops on Vessel Records on 13th March 2017.

Politics Of Dancing - Queens Road VES006 Preview

Moscow rolls through with a collaboration from founder Archie Hamilton and musical genius Benson Herbert, from Kerri Chandler’s protege duo, Voyeur. Two original tracks, remixed by the legendary 100hz.

The record opens with the wonderfully trippy Systim. A driving bassline, barely recognisable vocal snippets and groovy organic percussive elements dance around a haunting piano riff that ebbs and flows throughout the track. Tension builds until a second acid bassline is finally revealed, causing dance floor madness

Next up Herbavibe combines a big bassline, dreamy chords, Hamilton’s trademark 303 and a catchy vocal hook to create a certified summer anthem.

100hz uses the entire b side to interpret System into a more classical workout, using the piano elements to their full potential and using minimal hi hats to keep the listener enthralled. An after party gem that completes the package perfectly.

Yaleesa Hall is back on his home label Will & Ink with two EPs in quick succession. After releasing his debut album in 2016 this is the first solo output from the Amsterdam based producer on the label. This first EP is entitled Zoe Hayley Laura and features a trio of tracks that melt electro, techno and broken beats in arresting ways. Opening up the EP is Zoe Price, a silky electro track with shooting synths and big downward bass strikes that add real depth. It's a urgent and arresting affair to wake up the floor. Hayley Roach then has much more forceful drums that come in one two punch combinations to the gut. Synths writhe and gurgle up top as pads rise up and down the scale and the whole thing is brilliantly large. Laura Pomeroy then rocks back and forth on its heels, with train track like percussion and malfunctioning machine stabs. It’s a real tussle between different elements and locks you right in as a result. Once again then, the irrepressible Yaleesa Hall leads from the front.
