"Dark sounds let me explore unknown and hidden feelings. For me, darkness isn't scary, it's mysterious and powerful. I want to create a deep, hypnotic atmosphere.and feel like diving into shadows, not avoiding them." This quote from Shintarø Kanie, one of the finest contemporary Japanese techno producers, crystallizes not only his personal musical philosophy but also vividly parallels the deep Japanese cultural appreciation of shadows, mystery, and darkness. While Western cultures make a habit out of brightness and the elimination of shadow from both space and life, the Japanese make an artform out of cultivating and exploring the substance of the unseen. This is expressed powerfully within Shintarø Kanie's music, which possessed a supernatural, ethereal, ghostly character, constituting an irreducivly unique sound in the globa fabric of techno. His music is a vehicle for existential journeys into haunted spaces. In this episode we begin by positioning Kanie's music within the wider Japanese cultural and musical context and then have a short conversation about his approach before entering into a engulfing 30min mix of his music. Innmenal is a DJ and producer from Pinamar, Argentina, known for his hypnotic sound design and chaotic, rhythm-driven approach. With more than a decade behind the decks, he has performed extensively along the Argentinian coastline, shaping a unique style built on deep hypnotic layers, cosmic tension, and aggressive percussive elements that drive his sets and productions forward.
