Keep a close eye on 22-year-old DJ and producer SMIFF, now a familiar face on the Cowgate club circuit, SMIFF has made quick moves in the past couple of years: finding his feet at Headset’s long-running parties, holding down a Sneaky Pete’s club residency and more recently hopping on the decks to play a b2b with Skrillex.

Old Habits UK presents ‘Oh So Sweet’ by Newcastle’s MDWILLS.

Starting with the bleeps and bloops of a robot booting up, the track immediately wipes the oil from its eyes, with vocal chops creeping up to attempt to escape the purgatory of your headphones into what should be a dancefloor.

At the tracks peak, we learn this robot is not a morning machine, as angry synths stab behind vocals insisting ‘you don’t try no more, you don’t even care no more’, making us wonder what on earth we have done to deserve such a scalding from MDWILLS’ robot monster child.

If you don’t buy this track, you will be next on MDWILLS’ factory reset scalding list. Trust us you don’t want that.

“I’ve always been such a big fan of Nikki’s and I’m so happy to have a collab out with him. This tune came about super organically when Nikki and I were touring together in Japan earlier this year. On the first day in Osaka, we decided to make some music in the hotel. We played it out in the club that night and it went off. Read My Mind is a lot faster than my usual productions, but recently I’ve been embracing collaboration as a means for freedom to explore new sounds. We wanted to juxtapose some ethereal feeling vocals and melody to compliment the wonky, choppy beat and I had recently had some wicked vocal sessions in London with PRVNA, who I met through Dialled In, and Razor, who had just hosted for me at Boiler Room, which worked perfectly. Every time Nikki or I play Read My Mind, it gets such a mad reaction, and so I had to get it out for the clubs before the end of the year.” - AHADADREAM
