As an ardent admirer of SD Burman's work, this is a humble attempt to pay a tribute to this great songwriter (I am also a big fan of his unique singing style).

Update: With a heavy heart, I am updating this info. Michel Martineau has left us on March 21st, 2016. Cancer took him away at the age of 63. He was a BRILLIANT musician and a good human. We Salute you.

Theme of the song:

This song is about a newly wed couple living in a village (rural part). It can be assumed that they had an arranged (traditional) marriage. 
In this song, the husband is expressing his sadness/helplessness as he is deeply in love with his wife but somehow failed to understand her.  
He is having a mixed emotion of feeling jealous, often pity and may be frustrated.
