Melbourne resident Sui Zhen’s ‘Female Basic’ showcases her own version of Japanese post-punk through a dreamy baleric-bossanova filter.

Having graduated from the Redbull Music Academy in London alongside the likes of Daisuke Tanabe & Andras Fox, Female Basic sees Sui Zhen move away from her previous beautiful bedroom-pop on to something more minimal and mysterious.  Influenced as much by long sunny days spent in Osaka as nights in Shinjuku record stores hunting for Mariah & Dip in the Pool vinyl, Sui Zhen gives us the soundtrack for a slow-motion, late night disco found somewhere between Australia & Japan.

Female Basic is available from May 1st through Teto Records on limited edition cassette and digital.  5 tracks & 25 minutes of minimal pop perfection.  All cassettes come with download code with high quality digital versions of all included songs.

日の光を浴びながら大阪の街を歩き回ったり、夜な夜な新宿のレコードショップでレコードハンティングをしながら、MariahとDip in the Poolのヴァイナルを手に入れた前回の訪日から多大な影響を受けて制作されたこの音源では、どこかオーストラリアと日本の間のディスコで夜更けにスローモーションのサウンドトラックを聴いているような感覚にとらわれる。

Практика чтения «Шестислоговой» с целью освобождения живых существ отражена, в частности, в тибетской практике начитки дхарани «Практика небесной активности Авалокитешвары». Другим, гораздо более распространённым просторечным обозначением этой мантры является «мани», под каковым именем она широко известна и используется тибетскими и монгольскими буддистами.

sugandhim = sweet smelling, fragrant (accusative case)
puṣṭi = A well-nourished condition, thriving, prosperous, fullness of life
vardhanam = One who nourishes, strengthens, causes to increase (in health, wealth, well-being); who gladdens, exhilarates, and restores health; a good gardener
urvārukam = cucumber <a kind of Indian vegetable> (in the accusative case)
iva = like, just as
bandhanān = "from captivity" {i.e. from the stem of the cucumber} (of the gourd);(the ending is actually long a then -d which changes to n/anusvara because of sandhi)
mṛtyor = From death
mukṣīya= Free us, liberate us
mā = not
amṛtāt = [for] immortality, emancipation
