Our next episode is yet again a unique, one-off installment showcasing a veteran of the New York techno scene and a man who during the early 90s pioneered and helped push the sound of this city out to the world, STEVE STOLL. 
 
This exclusive mix is a brief overview of his label, <a href="http://www.discogs.com/label/224-Proper-NYC">Proper NYC</a>, in order to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Steve wanted to dedicate this journey to his friend and producer, <a href="http://www.discogs.com/artist/1374018-V1nz">Vincent Capuano (V1NZ)</a>, who is no longer with us, as well as the artwork featured here to <a href="http://www.discogs.com/artist/1910-Pete-Namlook">Pete Namlook</a>, which was taken from his latest album, <a href="http://www.discogs.com/Steve-Stoll-Zero-Point-crossings/release/1205807">Zero Point Crossings</a>, on Fax Records.
 
This a one-of-a-kind contribution, trailing the old-school, the minimal, and the raw, pure techno sound coming out of Proper NYC during the 90s. We are very grateful to be able to showcase this and we thank Steve for taking time out of parenthood and the American Midwest (where he and his family reside currently), to bring us this piece of frozen time.

Keepsakes, the alias of British-New Zealand producer and DJ James Barrett, has been a strong and distinctive voice in techno since rising to fame through his Stygian Concrete Works and Weapons Grade Manic EPs back in 2014. Since then he has showcased his powerful and menacing, yet often cheeky and playful, productions on influential labels including South London Analogue Material, Perc Trax, MORD, and Mindcut. Furthermore, he founded the Haven club night alongside Jaded Nineties Raver in Tāmaki Maraukau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) in 2015 - aiming to introduce clubbers to the experimental and harder side of techno in a city completely devoid of this music. 
In 2018 Haven also expanded into a vinyl-focused record label - going on to release many leading international artists including VTSS, Tommy Holohan, New Frames, Peder Mannerfelt, Ayarcana, Ansome, and Ryan James Ford, as well as becoming the main home for Barrett’s own productions. Now located in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) - following several years in Berlin hitting the European club circuit - he is focused on bringing his tough and eclectic sound to dance floors worldwide, with regular appearances at international techno institutions providing a platform for his formidable vinyl DJ sets.

Vy Tran

Vy Tran is a DJ based in Berlin. Before Berlin, he lived in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania for almost ten years, where he was very actively involved in the electronic music scene and is still an integral part of the club ROSA and the Freiland Festival. In Berlin he has also recently become an active part of the Sonntagsinstitut. Vy’s sound merges both groove and drive without losing the deep and dynamic facets when creating his very own storyline.

ZATHRA - Refraktometria EP [MWTG003]

Refraktometria was produced by a two producers team from the ZATHRA collective: Internal Observer (@ntrnl-bsrvr) and 8R0 (@spoonworks). In the collective, they represent sounds oscillating around dark forms of dance music.

The produced tracks refer in their rawness to the industrial roots of techno. It is a trip full of loops of machine sounds, devoid of any unnecessary embellishments, and at the same time it lacks typical references to accepted standards. All tracks on this EP have been created in a way that leaves room for further sonic experimentation for any creative DJ. The direct inspiration for recording four tracks for this EP were images of light refraction of substances, the determination of whose coefficients is used to study their physicochemical properties. Hence its name - Refraktometria.

As a multimedia director, he co-created performances by Krystian Lupa, Jan Klata, Agata Duda-Gracz... At the Wrocław Multimedia Fountain, where he held the position of Artistic Director, he collaborated with Brian Eno. Co-creator of special effects for the film "Rabbit in Berlin", dir. Bartek Konopka, which was nominated for an Oscar.
Fascinated with electronic music for years. Founder of the SLAP group, passionate about strong and good sound and energetic dancer. His sets are stylishly heterogeneous and strongly reflect what sits in his head.
