Rabba Sacheya

A classical composition based on Raag Aiman, Sampooran is set in one of the most moving of all Raags. This bandish is attributed to the legendary Hazrat Amir Khusro (1253-1325), the father of qawwali, an Indian musician, scholar and poet of Persian descent. 
MHB’s interpretation of this ‘bandish’ is unique and reflects the band’s ability to give this ageless melody a new dimension. Largely instrumental, the melody is balanced by an improvised ‘alap’.

Sampooran

Amrita Pritam (1919-2005) was an Indian writer and poet, considered the first prominent Punjabi woman, poet, novelist, essayist, and the leading 20th- century poet of the Punjabi language with over 100 books to her name.
Her poignant poem, Aj Aakhaan Waris Shah Nu (Today I invoke Waris Shah)- is an elegy addressed to the 18th- century Punjabi poet, capturing her anguish over massacres during the Partition of India (1947). 
Waris Shah (1722-1798) was a Punjabi Sufi poet, born in Jandiallah Sher Khan, in what is now the Punjab in Pakistan.
He is best- known for his work Heer Ranjha, based on the traditional and tragic folk tale of Heer and her lover Ranjha, considered one of the quintessential works of classical Punjabi literature.
Waris Shah, the sufi sage, was a consummate artiste, deeply learned in Sufi knowledge and local cultural lore. His verse is considered a treasure- trove of Punjabi phrases, idioms and imagery.

Mekaal Hasan Band, sometimes shortened to MHB, is a sufi rock band formed in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan in 1999 by composer-songwriter, guitarist Mekaal Hasan.
The band members have roots in different genres, including jazz, classical music, soul music, and sufi rock, the combination of each member has created a sound which has earned them fans from a variety of quarters. Hasan is the lead songwriter and has been noted for having a special style mixing classical music with metal techniques. The band is also famous for their epic live performances having won the most number of awards for Best Live Act.
