Brisbane chanteuse Jessie Warren, better known under her moniker Carry
Nation, is releasing Whales in Webs, which is the first single from her
sophomore album due later this year.

Whales in Webs was written after having listened to a podcast about a
whale being rescued from entanglement in crab nets. In what seemed like
an act of gratitude, the whale swam up to each rescuer individually and
stared them in the eyes.

“I think humans wrongfully believe themselves to be superior to mammals
such as whales, when in hindsight I believe many animals have much more
control over us then we do them. The song talks about the idea that we’re
all living in cities on top of whales’ backs and all they have to do is swim
faster or deeper and we’ll all fall off. Never to be seen again.” Carry Nation

Carry Nation’s sophomore album follows her 2010 record Like a River
Does, which was released through Brisbane label El Niño El Niño (McKisko,
Tom Cooney). This precursor to the second record demonstrates that the
once trademark nervous beauty has matured into something more robust:
now taking to the stage with an electric guitar and vocals like a weapon to
your soul.

Carry Nation has generated substantial buzz for her unique ability to transfix
her audience with equal offerings of strength and fragility in her haunting
live shows. Having spent the past twelve months gigging in pubs and
festivals around the country, she has had the pleasure of performing with
Darren Hanlon, Georgia Fair, Laura Jean, Washington and McKisko and
has recently spent her time collaborating with Lisa Mitchell, Lanie Lane, and
Clare Bowditch.

To support the release of Whales in Webs, Carry Nation and Sui Zhen will
be teaming up for an East Coast tour.
