Das Projekt "RIZA" sollte eine Brücke zwischen traditionellem griechischen Liedgut und moderner elektronischer Musik schlagen. Um dies zu bewerkstelligen habe ich erst einmal eine teilweise geographisch, teilweise kulturspezifische Recherche betrieben, um auf besondere Momente griechischer Musiklandschaft zu stoßen. Meine Auswahl ist dabei auf folgende Lieder gefallen:

1. Domna Samiou - To Miroloi Tis Panagias (Das Klagelied der Maria, Mutter Jesu) / Osterlied
2. Domna Samiou - Lismono Kai Xairomai (Ich vergesse und freue mich) / Epirotisches Lied
3. Loudovikos Ton Anogeion - Unbekanntes Lied / Kreta
4. Domna Samiou - Ena Mouni Stin Kerasia (Pussy On A Cherry Tree) / Fastnachts-Lied

Somit folgen die Hörer einer Reise startend von orthodoxen Kirchengesängen, zu alten epirotischen Flüchtlingsgesängen, zu den Klängen der minoischen Kultur und letztendlich dem Gesang der sexuellen Freiheit und der Dämonenvertreibung griechischer alt-traditioneller Fastnacht.

Diese alten Traditionen habe ich in ein neues elektronisches Gewand gekleidet und hoffe damit den modernen Ohren eine alte, fast vergessene Wurzel wieder näher zu bringen.

Pássaro present their second release “Antes de existir o Mundo” (Before the world existed): five original tracks plus two remixes by Shika Shika co-founder El Búho and Brazilian underground legend Psilosamples. “Antes de Existir o mundo” is a slow and sweet musical trip inspired by nature, landscapes and birdsongs from Brazil. In this album, produced over the last three years, Pássaro speak about the last instant before the world came into existence, the creation of the first life and the first sounds.

Pássaro is a trio from Brazil composed by Irû Waves, Ygor Marotta & Tomás Xavier. They have been exploring this collective way of composing music together since 2019, inspired by hundreds of jam sessions and by the psychedelic landscapes of Brazil’s nature.

Hello out there in Radio Land! 

Welcome to a very special edition of your Melee Report! This entire episode is dedicated to a deep dive into Venus retrograde through the lens of the Sumerian myth of Inanna, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and her descent into the underworld to meet her sister and counterpoint Ereshkigal. 

In this excellent episode I read sections of the myth of Inanna's Descent as well as interpretations of the tale from Inanna Queen of Heaven and Earth: Her stories and hymns from Sumer by Diane Wolkstein and Samuel Noah Kramer. 

We will pick up next week with your regularly scheduled Melee Report where we will be talking about the lunar eclipse in Virgo and other recent Astrological events. And we will pick up the story of Inanna in a few weeks after Venus makes their conjunction with the Sun and begins their ascent out of the underworld.

The sound of a distant time and place. Rough, green landscapes, rivers and the music of leaves blown by the wind, enticed by the beat of a drum or a kultrum. 

The strum of a charango is revived decades later, finding space in the silence between electronic beats, in a stillness where anything can happen: a crack, an electronic bass or just a pause in time. 

On Estelas Argentine producer Cecilia Gebhard AKA Barda revives three pieces of music from her home continent, each from a distant time, place and author but sharing the limelight together for the first time and creating a new dialogue between them. Rarely, if ever, did Alejandro Camara, Hermanos Berbel and Manuel y Julio Gómez Carrillo share the same stage. 

Barda carefully unites these tracks, revisits them with a dexterity, skill and respect for the originals, putting them in a new context and highlighting their ability to evoke the landscapes that inspired them, this time together, looking out from under the same tree.
