Still Music is proud to present “Analog Aquarium”, the debut album by legendary Detroit house producer Rick “The Godson” Wilhite.

Rick is a longtime member of Detroit’s dance music scene, dating back to his time working at Buy Rite records, one of the epicenters of Detroit’s 1980’s techno music explosion. More recently, his own record shop Vibes New and Rare Music has achieved revered status amongst those in the know, acting as the heart and soul of deep dance music in the city. Rick is also responsible for throwing countless parties in Detroit, helping to develop the house sound that the city is known for, and to build connections to DJs from other cities like Chicago that have proved invaluable over the years. His love for music and records has led to a DJing career that has spanned many genres, though it is his take on deep house music that has led him to international acclaim. Drawing from Detroit’s history of soul, jazz, disco, house, and techno, Rick’s productions weave these sometimes disparate elements into a beautiful, cohesive whole that remains distinctly his own, just as he does with the records he plays in his DJ sets.Working with Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr., and Malik Pittman on the 3 Chairs project has grown Rick’s reputation even greater.With many classic 12” releases under his own name that have been absolutely beaten to death by DJs worldwide, it is now time for Rick to leave his mark on a wider audience with his debut solo album.

While it is undoubtedly his album, “Analog Aquarium” allows Rick to explore all sides of his musical abilities with the assistance of some of his most trusted allies.The record kicks off with a hot, jazzy vocal track in collaboration with Osunlade,Theo Parrish, and Billy Love, the Jacksons’ referencing “Blame It On The Boogie”.While this tune conjures up images of the California sun, the next cut, “Dark Walking”, sees Rick team up with fellow 3 Chair Malik Pittman to explore the deep, nasty underbelly of the 313 with menacing synth bass and warm jazz chords.The two part jam “Muzic Gonna Save The World” is a loose, stomping string-heavy romp, bringing to mind Pharoah Sanders if the synthesizer and sampler had been his instruments of choice.“Sunshine Pt. 2” starts off pleasant enough with rolling percussion and Rick’s own voice intoning, “Sunshine”, but those vibes are soon belied by the ominous strings and bells that transform the track entirely. One of the tracks from Rick’s frst outing on Still Music is revisited on “City Bar Opening (Basement Mix)”, taking the already raw feeling to an even higher level. “Deep Horizons” begins with frenetic percussion that is eventually whittled down to a soulful groove before building the intensity back up. Rick’s famous late- night sampled grooves reappear on “In The Rain”, with Billy Love vibing up the place with his heart-felt vocals. On “Cosmic Jungle” and “Cosmic Soup”, Rick explores outer and inner space with tripped-out sci-f effects but without sacrifcing the soul that makes his productions so personal. All in all, a ftting full-length for such a diverse musician.

Still Music is based in Chicago, IL, and is the brainchild of Jerome Derradji. Now in its seventh year, Still Music has been instrumental in the worldwide proliferation of some of America’s freshest underground dance music. From raw disco to beautiful, refned techno, and stopping at every tempo and mood between and beyond, Still Music and its sublabels Past Due and Love For Music (also known as Stilove4music) have found room to include artists both established and new, releasing what can only be described as good music.

At the beginning of February, we told you about the forthcoming full-length album by the sci-fi-lovin' bedroom producer known as Com Truise, called Galactic Melt. Still a ways off from seeing that record, we're going to be treated to the three-song Fairlight EP on May 3, courtesy of releasing label Ghostly. None of those homegrown, electro-tinged tunes come from Truise's aforementioned debut LP, and yet they do trick of tiding us over until it arrives. Take the hyper-compressed "Polyhurt," where '80s-inspired sonic motifs are infused with fresh compositional ideas and a reinvigorated soul, one that emanates as much heartache as neon glow. It'll certainly be enough to satiate our nostalgic urges until Com Truise unveils Galactic Melt on July 5.

2011 has been a good year for Eddie da Silva and Marc Schuett aka Schraub Lorenz, first introduced to the techno world by Kurzstrecken Musik. Schraub Lorenz are both well-known artists of the underground techno scene in Berlin. They’ve been producing and DJing together since 2006 and via their club gigs outside the capital, they’re fast becoming a favoured live act in many German clubs. Their Buran remix was released last year on Kurzstrecken Musik and received a lot of attention from the likes of Chloé, Josh Wink, Ewan Pearson, Anthony Collins and Ben Westbeech. More releases and remixes have followed. Schraub Lorenz’s remix of Salted (written by Urim Salee) was released on DJ Dave Seaman’s Global Underground’s compilation.

The release comes complete with four different remixes from Peter Schumann (Bar 25), Marcos Petraza, Thomas Bellmer (Platte-International) and last but not least Dean Mickoski & Urim Salee. The track is the duo’s signature sound, featuring rolling basslines and vocals by a certain Isabelle-Antoinette*. French Monkey injects sex onto the dancefloor and is a must-play peak time title.

One day she was making her way through the big dark Treptow wood when she came across a magic harp standing in a shaft of sunlight by the lake. She sat down to play and it sounded like summer… Exone boss Exercise One provides a tougher extended remix that retains the deep fluidity of the original, while Deadbeat keeps the full harp arrangement with his own frenetic bass arrangement.

“I met this humble, proud and very interesting guy from Geneva, Switzerland almost 10 years ago at a really crazy club which was called Dachkantine in Zurich. From the first moment I knew that this guy was one of the few artists who really just follows his pure and dedicated love for music. No compromising, pleasing and bullshitting - that's Agnès. A great buddy to party with, an open-minded spirit to discuss and a truly gifted music producer, live-act and DJ. Welcome to his world.

Since almost a decade he is pushing the boundaries with a raw, deep and cutting-edge sound which is always refreshing and truly personal. With his very own Sthlmaudio Recordings he has possibly established a new form of house music which is rooted in spaced out dub, bouncy boogie as well as in rough techno and has also released many great tracks on the side for labels like Plak, Ornate, Perspectiv and Resopal to name just a few. The amount of releases is hard to overview as he likes to come up with new project names like Ray Valioso, Benelli or Cavalier.

As Cavalier he released in 2008 his first EP for us entitled "Ride 'em", when we asked him for more tracks to do another 12", he sent us around 40 tunes with a sound which blew us away. Ron and myself started to play them out, overwhelmed by the energy of his music, we decided to ask Boris to release an album. Cavalier aka Agnès is known for his usual deep, dubbed-out minimal techno productions and explore as well more house- influenced rhythms and textures. Agnès runs the Geneva-based label Sthlmaudio Recordings. Launched in 2003, Sthlmaudio has released tracks by Agnès, Puma, Octex, Apoll, Cabanne, Croatian producers Luka & Lazo and lately the Swiss duo Azuni. Agnès also had a well received EP on Cabanne’s Minibar label (’Treat Me Bad’) and popular releases in late 2006 on Plak Records, Einmaleins Musik and Perspectiv Records. He has recently started to collaborate with the Zürich based label Drumpoet Community under the moniker of Cavalier. He also released to date 2 EP under his Ray Valioso name for Real Soon Records in the UK.

We kindly ask you to play it loud and with a lot of bass in a dark room. Imagine you'll be riding high!

His rich musical palate makes ORG002 EP versatile release that can always be handy to have in the record bag.

Slz – Slowdown & dance

This track is just too good. It has everything, groove, melody, depth, intellect, variety, textures, sadness, calmness, length, progression, surprise factor, trumpet and nine minutes so you can just get enough. It starts ominously with tension and deep pad sounds but eases and relaxes as it flows like a delicate, invisible smoke through space. Track feels like a sophisticated, long conversation with your best friend. Oh yes and you fall in love in the end.

Slz – Rainy day

This is more of a happy version of a typical sad rainy day with a hint of humour, abstraction and geometrical interplay of various instruments. Evolving is the word that definitely suits this track. It starts as a weird electronica but introduction of live drum fills and sax takes you somewhere nice, jazzy and comfortable. Despite its unusual rhythmical structure ‘Rainy day’ is very danceable and quirky. It plays with you gently with slightly lazy and cheeky brass melody. The toy-like pulsating organ part keeps counting in the background and suspends you occasionally when it releases unexpectedly certain notes in decay. It finishes in one breath living you smiling and wanting more.

Slz – Get it

‘Get it’ is ultimately a deep/funky track which evolves in cycles with every cycle adding layers and flavours to the track’s progression. Sensual vocal samples and restless drum pattern drive the energy through. There are few break downs in the track masterfully executed with subtle build ups which give ‘Get it’ it’s teasing quality Perfect for peak time track to sensually charge the crowd.

As the leaves fall from the trees and the summer that briefly graced us with its presence disappears for another year, Join The Dots hit release number nine, one short of two fistfuls, a nine-knuckle-shuﬄe and a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. Swapping swiftly from dancefloor vibes to more future thinking we present Background Sound’s debut release.

Alberto Hernandez and Andrew Siedenburg are from New York and are on the hunt for a fist full of dollars. The product of an infamous, harsh Big Apple winter they locked themselves away and in “Close” and “Good By You” have created sounds inspired by the steaming drains, towering buildings and back-street alley ways of the self professed city that never sleeps.

Definitely no shrinking violet, London based Blue Daisy fresh from dropping his debut long player on Black Acre, championed by Mary Anne Hobbs and Giles Peterson has turned in a mix that defies categorization in all the best possible ways. Not just a loose case of slinging around clichés for lack of a better description it’s a way of trying to explain a track that flits between the raw and the epic that’s laden with bass and pulls at the heart-strings.

Lapalux recently sold out a release on cassette in one hour, despite almost no one apart from our Grandparents owning a tape deck. The latest recruit to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder empire has graced us with a remix that sits atop of the recent pile of bass music led releases. Playful yet serious it’s big in the literal meaning of the term.

Without going on too much more, the final remix on the release comes from our very own Duﬀstep a man who has contributed more than his fair share of releases to this label. Despite his frequent output, it’s possible that even he has outdone himself here with this dancfloor destined beauty.

Exercise One return to their Exone label for the end of 2011 with a low slung slice of electronic indie featuring Zach Van Hoozer of the Zulu Pearls on the title track ‘You Ought To Know’. Exercise One and Van Hoozer first met when the Zulu Pearls played with them in Berlin and impressed with their melancholic pop melodies and minimal arrangements, coupled with Zac’s distinctive voice and swagger.

Peter Van Hoesen delivers a standout remix, working for the first time with a full vocal arrangement. Peter is a long-term friend of the duo, first recording on their Lan Muzic label when he began producing techno again and having released previously on Exone this year. B side ‘Top Score’ is a highlight of their recent live shows and is more in the classic energetic Exercise One sound that dancefloors love.

Exercise One have been absorbed this year with many new projects - including the building of a stunning new live set that’s recently taken them to the mighty Fuse in Brussels and ADE, releasing on Dumb-Unit,Wagon Repair and Mobilee, and remixing Elon, Matilda, Billy Dalessandro and Dave Vega feat. Seth Troxler.

‘You Ought To Know’ has also been made into a beautiful video by Munich based artist Michi Acapulco, also featuring Zac Van Hoozer.

In the last year Duffstep has released his debut album to shed loads of critical acclaim, released multiple singles and knocked out remixes for the high and mighty, played festivals and clubs across the world and has probably even got off with your mum. Lucky her.

So it’s 10 out of 10 for Join The Dots and as something of a celebration for this release we are returning to one of the mainstays of the label, Duffstep. ‘Together’ is a brand new composition mixing the laconic sun-drenched leanings of his album yet with a greater emphasis on the upbeat dancefloor side of the coin. We celebrate then by combining him with Background Sound who have just released their debut EP on Join The Dots and Youandewan one of the brightest young talents to emerge from these shores in quite some time.

New York’s Background Sound fresh from their first release plumb the depths of underground New York city to the extent that one might think that the Paradise Garage was a club playing the British centric music of the same name. Their version of Duffstep’s ‘Together’ is epic without being overblown and dark but intelligent enough that the lights are still firmly switched on, a two step ridden steed wrapped in a soft blanket if you like.

Youandewan is a young lad (some might call mad professor) that could easily be forgiven for getting high on the hype such is the buzz around this guy at the moment. Having just seen his remix for Maya Jane Cole’s latest EP drop and getting props from everyone wise enough to listen he has turned his hand to crafting ‘Together’ into a melodic, dubbed and warped out piece of cinematic soundtrack music. It sits somewhere between classical ambient leanings but combined with lo-fi aesthetic and comprehension of mood that is fast becoming his trademark.

No no, just kidding. It’s me. Tolga. And this is my album's info sheet. I know it’s becoming a bad habit to write my own info sheets but otherwise it ends up sounding like the paragraph above. It portrays you like a galactic avenger that's been changing the rules of the game we call music over and over again. Which is obviously utter crap. What it doesn’t say is how miserable you look while doing it. I have discovered that I talk out loud to myself. Yes i do that. It's borderline sanity.

Anyways what we have here is an album which is, if i may say, relatively positive and generally good for home listening. This album was recorded in about 10 weeks in a living room (the sofa being my bed), with restless swollen eyes at dusk and a love/hate relation with my machines, microphone and electric guitar. 3 machines gave up on me during the making of this LP. Lazy bastards.

I hope you will like it.
