Prequel Tapes’s debut album Inner Systems was released in 2015 on Ninja Tune’s R’COUP’D imprint and raised ears everywhere. With its rough yet melancholic soundscapes and sparse but energetic beats, it occupied a curious niche between IDM’s dry understatement, Ambient’s soothingness as well as Techno’s frantic euphoria.

"Previous mixes that I’ve done were more open in styles, varied in bpm, playful and more carefully constructed to tell a story. So I thought it about time I did a mix that represents my vision of techno - late night dancefloors, on the fly, going with the flow, going where the spirit takes me. It’s still a mix of old and new, music that’s had a heavy influence on me mixed together with some new discoveries." - Prequel Tapes

Based on material from old DAT tapes, Inner Systems was both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary, a personal statement expressed through an anonymous moniker. Prequel Tapes returned with a Techno-infused EP on the Singaporean imprint Midnight Shift at the tail end of 2017 (A limited 3 part series from Midnight Shift featuring Xhin, Kirk Degiorgio and Prequel Tapes).

Quote "Shedding Layers by Rob Clouth is easily my favourite piece of electronic music that I have heard so far in 2018" (Andy Fosberry).......so how am I supposed to remix that!?....it was a difficult track to approach.

I decided I had to stay true to the original core of the track, the main melodic elements, which I just complemented with some new prophet chords. Then for the rest of the remix it was more of a matter of augmenting than a typical remix. I spent a loooong time working on detailing for this, I wanted to try and bring some industrial sounds in to push further the intensity that Rob had created, and push the sound design complexity as far as I felt I could get away with in the context of what is basically a techno track for clubs.

It's definitely one of the most intense remixes I've worked on for some time, and I've been playing it out a lot recently with good effect. But I hope it can also work as an interesting home listening track. As usual I put a lot of effort into the binaural and general stereo design, so if you listen with headphones you should hear sounds pop out at you, fly behind your head, that sort of thing. I wanted to turn all those clicks and strange noises into an immersive cloud dancing around your head.

The remix package has amazing work by Ben Lukas Boysen, Brecon and Chihei Hatakeyama on there, some beautiful ambient and peaceful moments as well as this monstrosity, I'm certain can you find something in there which will make your day better!

Scalameriya returns to Perc Trax after the success of 2016's 'Kepslok'. Since then he has continued to break new ground both as a solo artist and via his ongoing collaboration with Italian producer VSK, playing across Europe and releasing on a number of key labels whilst growing his own Genesa imprint. 

Now for his first release of 2018 he takes a giant leap forward both musically and technically with the three track statement of intent that is his 'Hellzone Megapunk EP'. Each track demonstrates new techniques and approaches not heard in his music before, from the 4/4 versus broken beat cage fight of the title track to Crucible's rolling polyrhythms and the otherworldly processed vocals of the closing track. 

As the first Perc Trax release of the year this EP sets out everything the label seeks to achieve, a combination of sonic innovation that manages to keep attention fully focussed on the dance floor at all times.

The second track to feature 'Dislocation Of The Alpha' shows Aïsha creating an almost dreamlike aural state as she calls for her listeners to “Unlearn, dislocate the Alpha.” It’s a significant statement that delves into both the political and the philisophical and yet is only something that could have been made by Devi.

Premiere: Dave Clarke feat. Louisahhh 'IVT? (Chloé Remix)'

After relaunching his own label in January, Locked Groove debuts with a four-track package, including two remixes by the elusive Prequel Tapes, on the Milan based imprint Just This.
On the title track ‚Progression’, the Belgian pairs darting triplets and wobbling sub bass with sparse melodies, allowing each element to wander through vast spaces over seven entrancing minutes. ‘The Come Up’ is more subdued and a nod to the 90’s with broken beats and fragmented synths.
Prequel Tapes provides two distinct treatments of ‘The Come Up’. The ‘Going Up Mix’ builds an intense energy with swirling filters and engulfing soundscapes, raising the tempo of the original whilst retaining its delicate ambience. Conversely, the ‘Going Down Mix’ deconstructs each motif to form a hazy composition where disparate notions drift towards each other.
