Ōtautahi, New Zealand might not be the first city that comes to mind when thinking of hard-hitting techno, but for Chole, always been fertile ground.

Growing up in the 03, Chole was immersed in a vibrant arts community that encouraged exploration. Classical instruments at seven taught her the structures and theory behind music, laying a foundation that would later underpin her pulsing, 4x4-driven sets. “Music is a beautiful blackhole, possibilities are infinite,” she reflects, crediting her early training with giving her a vocabulary to articulate sound.

Her introduction to hard techno came almost by accident during her time in Dunedin in 2023. A friend recommended a Lily Palmer set recorded live at the European Space Agency for Drumcode Radio, and for Chole, it was a revelation. “It was so new to us, we had never heard anything like it in New Zealand, and that was it, there was no going back.” The discovery ignited a passion that would quickly propel her from bedroom DJing to festival stages.

Spacetime Roundabout brings together ten tracks that refused to drift into oblivion, remaining in orbit through countless rotations. Originally released across different formats during the 2007–2015 era, with some early versions reaching back much further, each track was shaped by years of pressure, erosion, and endurance.

At their core, these are still the same tracks, evolved beyond their rawer younger selves. This album captures their current state, at this particular point in space and time. Whether this is techno, trance, or something else is open to interpretation. Genres exist here only as basic elements, bent and fused until their laws break down.

Dedicated to those who stayed too long, listened too closely, and realised too late that one does not escape the gravitational pull of a spinning turntable.

Techno was never a late discovery for ADRIANNA.

It arrived early, loud, and embodied. “I started going to raves in my early teens,” she recalls. What began on dancefloors quickly evolved into something deeper. Teaching dance classes by day and working coat check at afterhours parties by night, ADRIANNA embedded herself in the underground long before a career was even a conscious ambition. The culture arrived first. The identity followed.

Music had always been present. A musical household, a father tuning steel drums, instruments scattered around the home, formal training through orchestras and bands. Rhythm was not learned. It was lived. Dance sharpened her sense of pacing and crowd psychology, a skill that still underpins her DJ sets today. “Training in dance influenced my sense of rhythm as well as pacing and taking the crowd on a journey,” she explains. That physical understanding of movement still defines how ADRIANNA constructs tension and release.

Production emerged as a practical extension of expression. After formal courses and guidance from mentors, the real discipline became restraint. “The hurdles now are the same as they have always been. Make better music every time and accept when something is done.” That balance between precision and release defines her catalogue. ADRIANNA learned to view her output as a body of work rather than isolated moments, reducing perfectionism without sacrificing intent.

Melleefresh has been an avant-garde performer and producer in the Canadian arts scene for nearly 30 years. She is currently the President of @PlayRecords (US/UK).

Among the many artists with whom Melleefresh has collaborated through Play Records are Dirty 30 aka Alixander lll, Billy Newton-Davis, Calvertron, Hoxton Whores, 40oz Profits, Gettoblaster, Jerome Robbins, MC Flipside, Boy Pussy and SpekrFreks.

In 2004, Melleefresh was looking for artists to remix a Carole Pope album and was introduced to a young DJ from Niagara Falls using the moniker deadmau5. Signing him to Play Records, Melleefresh and deadmau5 collaborated on many tracks in the label's repertoire, including the 2008 Juno Award-nominated After Hours.

Most recently, Melleefresh opened Play Deep with Zach Brown-Smith (DJ Spydabrown). Located in London's posh King's Cross neighbourhood, Play Deep is a 3-storey, 3-room state-of-the-art recording studio that has served as a recording venue for The Spice Girls, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Wretch 32, Giggs, Emeli Sande, Canada's Keiza, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Popcaan, among others.
