V/A - Hypnotic Mindscapes presents Vol. 2

Toronto party and record label Hypnotic Mindscapes returns with the second instalment of their compilation series featuring an array of Canadian and International artists both established and emerging. 
The A side begins with label head Cosmic JD exhibiting a high-energy, acid-infused number, entrancing and mysterious modulations ideal for the witching hours. The A2 cut welcomes long-time Hypnotic collaborator, Montreal ’s own Adam Solomon aka Weekend Logic with a retro-futuristic acid breakbeat with round basslines and enhancing science-fiction melodies. On the flip-side, Hypnotic member DJ Zenta from Tokyo debuts on the label with an unique approach to timeless progressive and tech-house vibes. The final cut on the B-side presents Japanese via Toronto Masayuki Tomita contributing with an after-hours track that exposes his signature of funky and wonky analog electronics. Full colour sleeve art by label artist Sofia Eleni.

Coming in hot for its second outing is Anthea & Velasco’s PILLZ imprint, this time they turn to Oshana to take care of business. Chunky dance floor action with an attitude from the Berlin based artist as she showcases her characteristic sound once more. The four track “Letting Go'' EP explores extensive territory, meandering between distinctive shades of electro, breakbeat, techno and acid energy from an outer place. 

First up is “Vindicator”, a tightly arranged trip, bubbling from the word go, leading you down a path of tension before opening up into a mysterious frenzy, eccentric synths wandering around the powerful forward motion of the track. Further spaced out transmissions that pack a punch in title track “Letting Go”, despite the raw tenacity of the track you can easily become lost in the depth of the production.  

Tasteful retro drums pave the way on the flip side in “Jah Rules”, conversing blissfully with the squelchy bass tones that flash in and out. Closing off the “Letting Go” EP is “E Motions”, a fierce electro whipper, ready and waiting to be propelled into a club setting, circulating the room, simmering as it begins to build a unique atmosphere on the dance floor, allowing the imagination to wander. 

A powerful quest through Oshana’s versatile vibe, essential underground moods for the hazy hours of the night.

French-Singaporean duo Dixia Sirong return for their third EP on Inner Balance, the sub-label of Chez Damier’s legendary Balance imprint. Breezy harmonies float over the tightest of grooves in a classy combination that has become the label’s hallmark. ‘Eight’O’Eight’ is a surefire hit while ‘Kashmere’ and ‘Yggdrasil’ will slot in with the best of today’s Berlin-London tech house sound. Closer ‘HK Side’ transcends subcategorisation, its piano and pads reaching for something bittersweet and timeless.

Baraka returns with a fresh Rock infused EP named Psycho. Six new songs blending big beat, drum’n bass and trance with their touch of madness. This album was compiled in 2020 during dark, dystopian times. As we searched for answers inside ourselves, Dan Piu's artificial mind bubble manifested into a thick mass of confusion. Today in humanity's journey, a science fiction foresight has become reality. The dawn of this new era has been essential for the frame of mind of this album: "Inside Universe"

The record artwork is connected to the C.C.P aka. Childhood, Calm & Punk Project - which presents a fresh multidimensional art project. The artwork shows a unique collaboration between comic abstractionists Russell Maurice (Uk/Japan) & Kenichiro Mizuno ((Japan). The show ”ALTERED STATE” will be held in  OIL by 美術手帖, Parco, Tokyo - 12.03.2021 - 28.03.2021.
