Our heart is with our town. Oakland is our home, and these creative communities have become our families. On December 2nd, 2016 a devasting tragedy occurred at a warehouse party in which 36 beautiful souls ascended into the ether. We are all experiencing deep emotional processing and healing. This has become a remarkable time of resiliency and togetherness, as many band together to help in any way on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. It is a blessing to have so many great humans coming together for a pure purpose. We felt it was only right to contribute to this cause in the best way we know how...with our art. This project is carthartic and therapeutic for all who need it. Many of it's songs were created as a homage to honor the souls that have passed and offer a feeling of solace for those here. We appreciate your constant support of our events and collective works. Your support of this compilation will directly help the fire relief fundraising cause, so we would like to thank you.

New single “Alright” with South African rapper Rāms featuring additional production by Zikomo and The Charles Gené Suite.

Back in fall 2018, Johannesburg-based collective WeHeartBeat invited a group of like-minded artists to South Africa — not only to enable them to perform on stage at Fak'ugesi featival, but also collaborate in the studio. During these sessions, producer S. Fidelity (from Berlin, Germany) along with Zikomo (from Los Angeles, USA) and The Charles Gené Suite worked with rapper Rāms (the latter two are Johannesburg locals) on what would become “Alright”.

“Alright” is a lyrical love fantasy, in which Rāms is giving everything that he can offer and in the same light showering her with every compliment there is under the sun. He gives her a vision of what their love could become the hopes that she’ll say its alright for him to love her.

Sons Of The James is a new duo project from singer/songwriter Rob Milton and producer/musician DJ Harrison, inspired by a blend of classic Gospel music and early 2000's Soulquarians era R&B and Soul.

The B-side, featuring the legendary Georgia Anne Muldrow (the literal inventor of the phrase "stay woke" on the Erykah Badu song "Master Teacher"), was recently featured on season 4 of Issa Rae's hit show 'Insecure' on HBO. 

Rob Milton had this to say about the project's inception – "In 2015 I recorded the album of my dreams in Richmond, Virginia with DJ Harrison. Sad to say that the energy was similar at the time [as it is now]. I was coming home from BLM protests and writing songs about love to escape from the anger."

In support of Black Lives Matter, all label income from Bandcamp sales of this single will be matched by Fresh Selects and donated to various bail fund charities and organizations fighting to defund the police.

Multinational group Seba Kaapstad collaborates with Sudanese/American rapper Oddisee on a new song entitled “I’m Scared”. Singer Zoe Modiga says the new single is “a record that looks into the vulnerability of sharing the things we most fear. It is a song that humanizes us and though fear is a low frequency emotion, it can be acknowledged for one to work towards a better emotion.” Rapper Oddisee joins the jazz ensemble for a piece that reaches towards something essential and human- a way for us to examine ourselves & become better.

The group Seba Kaapstad is made up of singers Zoe Modiga & Ndumiso Manana with production from Philip Scheibel & Sebastian Schuster. The crossing of musical influences from jazz to soul to hip-hop are as diverse and beautiful as the members themselves. Hailing from South Africa, Eswatini, and Germany, the sound is distinct, creating what is specifically Seba Kaapstad.

The newest album from the neo-soul/jazz group is called “Konke,” translating to “Everything” from Zulu. The album picks up where they left off from 2019’s MMG debut album “Thina”. Ever evolving, the group has focused in on their sound, making “Konke” a smooth, cerebral & uplifting album. Featuring Quelle Chris,  Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Oddisee,  “Konke,” is what group imagination sounds like. At the same time inventive & reverent, “Konke,” is a one-of-a-kind experience like nothing else you’ve heard this year.
