"Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of Madloch and Subnode's 'Pattern Lock' is Yarni. Based in Sheffield, the British artist has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. With a sound that marries live percussion and catchy melodies with the darker elements of dub techno, Yarni has earned the praise of Mind Against, Throwing Snow, Riva Starrr and Richie Hawtin, while landing releases on some of the world's freshest record labels, most notably Nie Wieder Schlafen and Seven Villas. Now making his Sound Avenue debut, Yarni's masterstroke is to collaborate with sax player Jonoa for a soulful rendition of 'Pattern Lock'. Rhythmically enticing from the outset, a bed of broken beats and chunky bass stabs sets the foundation for a storyboard of tasteful chord stabs and smoky sax riffs. Wavy and whimsical in all the right ways, Jonoa's riffs resonate across the first act, blended perfectly against a backdrop of dimly lit atmospheres and sweeping effects. Furthering its textural appeal is an intoxicating break, building tension through a rising blend of hazy harmonics and drony sax fragments, before pulling back as the beats for a finale that is equal parts musical and groovy. "
