Kick-starting 2024 in emphatic fashion, Czech rising star Dominik Gehringer releases his highly-anticipated cut ‘Strange World’ on Purified Records. Revisiting Push’s iconic trance anthem, Dominik’s version enters a progressive dimension with masterful synth work and rumbling percussion and has already made a massive impact in sets around the world with its hypnotic presence. 

The ‘Strange World’ artwork showcases Daniel Nicholson’s spectacular still of a whale shark. Despite their imposing size, whale sharks exude an air of tranquility as they glide through the ocean, mouths agape to filter plankton-rich waters. These magnificent beings are not only the world’s largest fish, but they also hold a unique place in marine ecology as gentle filter feeders. Their longevity, reaching up to 70 years, has captured the attention of researchers keen on unraveling the mysteries of their lives. Organizations like the Marine Megafauna Foundation engage in vital conservation efforts, conducting research that not only aids in understanding the species, but also contributes to broader ocean health initiatives. Despite being filter feeders, whale sharks face threats like bycatch, boat strikes, and habitat degradation. Their slow reproductive rate makes them susceptible to population decline. They are listed as endangered according to the IUCN. 

Located on the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, Daniel Nicholson is one of the globe’s most prominent professional underwater photographers. He seeks to share the beauty and magic of the underwater world to inspire conservation and change.

Continuing his journey with Purified Records, South African artist Jono Stephenson releases his electrifying new single Digital Rain, a stunning testament to his mastery of melodic techno and deep house.

Since debuting on the label in 2024 with Pathfinder as part of the Fragments XVIII compilation, Jono has become a regular on the label, following up with the shimmering Midnight Sun and the collaborative anthem Pulling Me To You alongside Paradoks and Frynn. With Digital Rain, Jono solidifies his place as a standout talent, blending deep emotional resonance with dancefloor energy.

Digital Rain is an evocative journey that unfolds with pulsating basslines and cascading melodic textures. The track’s lush, atmospheric layers create a sense of space and introspection, while its driving rhythm propels it forward with hypnotic intensity. Jono masterfully balances uplifting melodies and darker undertones, crafting a piece that resonates both emotionally and physically. 

The ‘Digital Rain’ artwork shows the River Otta near the town of Lom in Norway, captured after several days of heavy rain by Jan Erik Waider. A fine art photographer based in Hamburg, Germany, Jan is known for capturing abstract landscapes of the northern latitudes. With a focus on water, ice, and intricate natural patterns, his work reveals the beauty hidden in the subtle details of the world around us.

The water, laden with sediments, created striking patterns through the currents. The river’s name likely originates from the Old Norse verb ótta, meaning “to scare” or “to terrify.” Fed by glaciers, the river is known for its strong and fierce flooding, particularly during periods of intense rainfall or glacial melt.
