Marcel Vogel’s Amsterdam based label Lumberjacks in Hell arises once again with something raw, soulful, and extremely fresh for your listening pleasure. This time, they’ve tapped the deeply prolific Bristol-based house connoisseur Andy Compton, who’s had a long and venerable career both as a soloist and part of the legendary trio of The Rurals, and who’s also released more than 31 albums and over 135 EPs. This project sees Andy join forces with the African artist Shamrock and the Swahili vocalist Asali for four sun-drenched boogie tracks that they recorded in South Africa.

“Nifanyeje,” the projects stand-out track is a slow groover with one hell of a bassline. Adding to the “smoothness” is what seems to be a suite of live instrumentation including organic percussion, gentle guitar, funky brass, light key stabs, and a gorgeous, airy vocal. A track like this demands you to chill. Don’t listen to this in the morning, you won’t get anything done for the rest of the day. If I didn’t have a job to do I’d roll a joint and listen to it 100 times. Anyways, just added this burner to my “Rosé Season” playlist on Spotify. Hand me my slips, fam.

Bunny Chow, the 31st EP from Lumberjacks in Hell, couldn’t be a better release. It drops on May 7th, and will likely soundtrack your summer. On May 7th, support the musicians who appear on this record by shelling out some cash for the wax. You won’t be sorry, and you might get laid if you play it.

Zenit is a jazz ensemble from Krems in Lower Austria, founded in 1976 by Hannes Treiber and Willi Langer. Effortlessly bringing together pop, soul and new age vibes, this is a record that is as unique as it is difficult to date. Does it sound like from the 80s? We’re not sure. To our minds at least, it could also be from the future.

Currently celebrating 15 years of trading from his London record shop IF Music, Jean-Claude has built an enviable reputation over the past 25 years, as the go-to rare vinyl vendor for some of the biggest DJs and producers on the planet. Fellow record dealer and specialist music expert Victor Kiswell has travelled the globe several times over, hunting for rare records and DJing, appearing on a Cairo edition of Boiler Room in 2017.

‘Blue Grass Ep’ contains four super rare recordings of a phantom Greek musical-duo called ‘Free Level’ which was formed in Athens, Greece between 1983 and 1984. The musicians behind this project were composer and keyboardist George Theodorakis and ex-Sharp Ties’ guitarist and founding member Petros Skoutaris - both young veterans of the Athens music scene in the late 70’s/late 80’s.
Into the light proudly picks four utterly spellbinding highlights of this totally unheard material. More specifically, the ep offers two long instrumental tales and two somewhat personal songs that all together share the same syncretic blend of European and Southeastern nuance. Swaying rhythms, obscure but hilarious lyrics, pitched up Jean-Luc Ponty influenced basslines and proto-dreampop experiments by one of Athens' most promising but short collaborations from the early 80's. Immerse yourself!

It's Time

Very small record self released by Sylvain Carel and distributed by FLCM. All compositions an instruments by Sylvain. Really cool cover illustrared by Pascale Chilma. Record for sale is in the clip. Plays around VG++ and the sleeve is glossy and great, but has a 4 cm fade-to-yellow gradient towards the open side. It just looks like that bit got more or less sunlight by the way it was shelved by the previous owner. You can see it in the photo here. Doesn't look like a common record, stats on discogs say it's there since 2013! and sold only 4 times ever since.
