She’s made online appearances everwhere from @balamii, @hawsmusic and @on-rotation-music to our very own local broadcaster @area3000. Those familiar with Katie’s work knows she’s a big advocate for Aus music overseas and an expert when it comes to all things proggy and deep. I didn’t take my records with me, so this is a full vinyl mix of some of my favourite progressive house and trance records inspired by journeys, friendships and gratitude. At Moniker '22, Erin played one of the most iconic sets of the festival, which had punters dancing/slut-dropping on the tables in the Tea Lounge. We've been anticipating a mix from her ever since.

This mix is a reflection of Erin's deep listening and digging; a lovingly-paced journey through psydub and downtempo which weaves in and out of a multitude of moods — it's nurturing, soothing, tough, sexy, swampy...

Rotations 32: Moss Witch

Musical trends are nothing more than waves that rise and fall according to fashions, desires and inspirations.
The current trend towards progressive house, mental techno and goa trance, for example, is merely a recuperation of initiatives launched in the 90s. Yet we're improving the sound, making it more modern and reappropriating it to suit our generation.

The two artists featured on this latest issue of tdt are all in love with paying tribute to those famous years, and they do it particularly well. They are the very reason why we continue to look to the past to produce a present that strives to do better.

Both club-oriented and at the same time introspective and intimate, the worlds of Pjenne and Jolly encourage exploration, and that's exactly what we're interested in here!

Setting the tone in a similarly deep and heady post-rave delirium as RBI’s Disseminate and in-house group Sleep D’s latest album, the spectral dub techno of Unsolicited Joints slips in perfectly to the Butter Sessions 2023 vibe.

Unsolicited…no one asked for these joints, yet here they are. Salvaged from many spontaneous late night jams over the last few years in a darlinghurst studio with only the mood in the room and the spirit of fun as guides. It’s all here really - Convextion-esque Midwest futurism, spiraling pads and woodblock style percussion mixed with the kind of borderless deep house timbres that nod more to Sprinkles, Regelbau and Acido than the watered-down, commercialised monotony. Elements of bleep, golden era 90s progressive house and even dubstep (‘Joint 5’) coalesce to prove a distinct UK influence, though Sydney brothers, Cousin & Ben Fester, combine them with ease.

'Joint 2' manages to at once subtly unfold yet rapidly ascend into peak-time 130 territory, knowingly crafted with the DJ in mind. Meanwhile 'Joint 3' gathers momentum through a shuffling, almost European minimal sort of groove, equally floor friendly but with less of the intensity. The aforementioned bleep tropes poke their head out on the latter half of the opening cut, while across the whole thing is a sense that the Fester's are as voracious listeners as they are talented producers. An exciting collection of tracks that wear their stylistic influences on their sleeve but are deep in the knowledge of those that have come before them.

Up & coming fresh Melbourne/ Naarm talent Miki @tirumiksu for number one hundred & thirty eight with the perfect balance of cheeky minimal, lush electronica & euphoric groove, the perfect summer rollers. Miki is making waves in the scene, popping up more & more at local parties, showing off her different styles, with a beautiful knack for downtempo rhythms and storytelling, embedded with broken beats & rare tripped out gems.. and often a more dancey side with hot tech house baselines & high-energy melodies.
