Meltway are back with another ecstatic single called “Unrestrained” on January 18th. This is the band's second single taken from their upcoming album “Nothing Is Real”, which is out on February 9th, 2024, via Through Love Records. 

“Unrestrained” is whimsical and full of life with slapping indie-rock guitars, pushing drums, and spine-tingling hooks. Drummer Magnus Rullestad wrote the song's hopeful lyrics while studying abroad in Toronto, Canada. 

Besides pursuing music studies, Magnus moved to Toronto to be closer to his long-distance girlfriend. The relationship unfortunately ended abruptly and dramatically just before leaving. 

At that point, it was too late to stop the process of moving. The prospects of exciting days on the horizon and this unforeseen radical change gave birth to Magnus’ lyrical dimension expressing his emotional turmoil. 

“Unrestrained” sees Meltway conveying a clear message; “this too shall pass” - as the old King Salomon quoted. Even though this shit kind of sucks right now, someday it will be nothing but a memory, and maybe those unforeseen changes will open new doors.

They Spent No

Formed in late 2018, the at the time 4-piece band pursued the stylistic vein of the 90’s shoegaze scene with crusty distortion guitars, progressive drums, and supremely airy vocal figures. Only two years after their formation, the band self-released their lo-fi-heavy debut EP, Everytime; a daydreamy handful of songs with alluring atmospheres of heartbreak and self-disorientation, that was quickly discovered by the legendary platform KEXP through their digital sale on Bandcamp.

Based in Esbjerg, Denmark, Meltway originally consisted of vocalist/guitarist Mathias Hammerstrøm, bassist/vocalist Mikkel Schmidt, guitarist Thomas Brunbjerg and drummer Magnus Bjørnsen Rullestad. When Thomas spent a year abroad in Estonia in 2020, the band recruited guitarist Kristoffer Møller as a stand-in. As Thomas returned, they realized they couldn’t let Kristoffer go, and Meltway became a 5-piece band with 3 guitars. This made it possible for them to further develop their delicate sense of sound craftsmanship and songwriting.

Meltways' forthcoming debut album, Nothing Is Real, is a strikingly infectious collection of explosively driven songs. Warm blankets of noisy guitars and oceans of reverb melt with Mathias’ angsty, yet liberating lyrics. Recorded in Esbjerg at Tobakken Studio, mixed and engineered by Mathias, and mastered by Slowdives Simon Scott, Meltways' full-length album will be released in 2024.
