From the football field as an NFL Houston Oilers Cheerleader, to the stage and studio a Recording Artist, Melva even early in her career as a country artist, Melva was performing in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Las Vegas, and many Texas venues landing her in Nashville, performing many Nashville venues, and in many great recording studios, such as Hilltop, Germantown, Oceanway, County Q, Ultra Sound Productions and The Red Room Nashville.  

Her delivery of both contemporary and classic country songs along with her ability to mix a taste of soul and her love for motown sound, has given Melva many opportunities to share the studio with a long list of talent, top industry producers, award winning songwriters, and musicians in the industry, among which are Nashville Hall of Fame Songwriter Red Lane.

Often Melva has appeared and performed on special projects, including the single “Don’t Feel Sorry For Me,” written by Artist Tommy Allen to honor the U. S. Military, and the I-Tunes single, “What Becomes of The Brokenhearted” and it’s Music video shot by HTV Studios, raising the awareness of homeless in Houston, Texas.

Melva’s single “Out Of The Blue” produced by Tyler Summers is now available on I-Tunes, along with the other singles “Obvious,”Letting You Go,” and “Wade Into The Water.” 

Melva, also an Illustrative Artist and watercolorist and is an active member of the Houston Oilers Derrick Dolls Alumni, the National NFL Alumni Association and the National Football Cheerleaders Alumni Organization.

Fans have dubbed soul-pop singer/songwriter Melany Watson’s aesthetic as a mix of modern and timeless with southern influence. Melany’s musicality channels icons like Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton, with a delivery that conjures a throwback to a Carole King-like writing style steeped in the storyteller lineage of country music passed on to her from her Houston, TX upbringing. Melany blossomed as an performer while pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Commercial Music - Voice Principal with an emphasis in Music Business at Belmont University and in venues all over Nashville, TN. 

Since moving to New York City, Melany has performed  with Tori Kelly, The Roots, BIRDY, Alessia Cara, Marc E Bassey, Bebe Rexha, 50 Cent, Maz, LORDE, Justin Stanton, Rayvon Owen, Kelsea Ballerini, Macy Gray, Leona Lewis, Tones and I, Kimbra, LAUV, Jennifer Lopez (MARRY ME ), Kelsey Lu, Ed Sheeran, Yung Gravy and Blessing Offor. 

She has performed on The Voice (Season 6), The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, Live with Kelly, The View, Wendy Williams, The Elvis Duran Morning Show, MTV Video Music Awards (2022), Good Morning America, Late Night with Seth Meyers and NPR’s Tiny Desk Performance.

Summer 2015, Mel was awarded the highly coveted Abe Olman Scholarship from SESAC and the Songwriters Hall of Fame for her excellence in songwriting, joining highly respected previous winners such as John Legend, Comic Heroes, Bebe Rexha and Lori McKenna. Most recently, her song “Point Blank” (Sung by Donna Missal) was featured on the new Fox TV series LUCIFER. She recently placed a song in the Lions Gate Film “Miller’s Girls,” Directed by Jade Halley starring Jenny Ortega. Release date pending due to the WGA writers / Sag Aftra strike. 


In 2019, she was a featured Songwriter and Artist on Grammy Award Winning musician Justin Stanton’s (Snarky Puppy) debut album ‘Secret Place’.  “What Do You Want” was her first feature under Ground Up Music. You can also hear Melany’s voice on Tim Kubart’s Sophomore album “Building Blocks”, which was nominated for a “Best Children’s Album” at the 2019 Grammys. 

In 2023, Melany will finally release her first full length album co-written and produced with Brad Allen Williams (Jose James, Cece Winans, Brittany Howard).
