1971: at least 2 civillians and 3 police officers were injured when 3 explosions ripped through an area of Belfast.

1980: It was reported that telephone links between Dublin and the rest of the country should improve after Christmas.

1980: A pupil of St. Flannan's College, Ennis was knocked down returning to school and was removed to the Count's Hospital where he was reportedly on the road to recovery.

2010: The dramatic nosedive in Shannon Airport's Flight schedule over the past year prompted calls for the immediate implementation of a new business plan.

Onto music news on this day In 1976 The Sex Pistols made their television debut when they appeared on the Manchester based Granada TV program 'So It Goes'.

2007 The Police played the first UK date on their Reunion tour when they played two nights at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Mark Ronson was born in the UK in 1975 and singer Beyonce was born in America on this day in 1981 and this is one of her songs.

North Clare cancer survivors are being invited to take part in a new support initiative.  

This comes as Gort Cancer Support, in collaboration with the Marie Keating Foundation, prepares to host a six–week Survive & Thrive programme beginning on Wednesday 17th September.  

To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Cara Brady, Centre Manager at Hollyblue House, Gort Cancer Support Group CLG.

Energy regulator warns of ‘historic’ arrears as electricity credits end and prices climb  

Thousands more households could fall into arrears on their energy bills this winter, even as the numbers are already “trending at historically high levels”, the energy regulator has warned.  

The situation is exacerbated by the fact government electricity credits cease this winter and electricity prices could rise further in the coming weeks.

A Clare disability rights activist had dismissed a new Government strategy for providing better accessibility for disabled people as a "glossy document" and a "distraction".

The National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People, which is a five-year strategy providing a policy framework for the Government's approach to disability issues, has officially been launched.

The strategy contains 23 commitments which are under the pillars of learning and education, employment, independent living and active participation in society, wellbeing and health, and transport and mobility.

Ennistymon-based disability rights activist Ann Marie Flanagan has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons she believes the plan lacks the required legal framework for it to have any impact.
