Born In Oakland California on June 14,1991, Jeffrey Melvin Scott Jr, aka Melvin Voltaire started writing simple lyrics with his brother and family friend when he was about 9 years old. Back then it was just about rhyming. They would dub over instrumental tapes on a boombox and make songs to perform for friends and family. After that, he didn’t write much until his junior year in highs school.  At that point, he started putting verses on a few of his brother Kiveon aka Kivi’s songs and also recorded a few songs of his own.
 It wasn’t until he was close to taking a break from college that he got more serious musically. Entering college focused on the lifestyle more than academics contributed to his leaving school in addition to family issues.  During his break from school, him along with his father, Jeff Sr, produced “Weapons of Mass Deception”, an album that allowed Voltaire to put many of his emotions, beliefs and struggles into song. Since then he has written a number of songs and poems and continues to do so.
Voltaire has gotten on stage experience from performing at open mics, school events and on a praise and worship team during youth groups and Sunday services. He currently attends San Francisco State University where he studies creative writing and continually develops his skills. 
While Voltaire’s primary style of writing is rap, he has also written R&B music and constantly pushes to find new sounds and styles that he likes. 
As far as his content, Voltaire’s Christian walk(Knowing that no one is perfect, and Jesus died for us to make us right with God) is reflected within his work. He was baptized when he was about 6 years old but didn’t fully come to know Christ and allow him to begin heading is life until he was about 19. Although subject matter varies from song to song, threads of truth, inspiration and life are constant.
