Sketches, demos and duos - not in any particular order.

A varied collection of unreleased stuff, all recorded and produced by me under various monikers/collabs across 20 years.

- Memeshift was born slightly after 2001 and has been my longest running moniker. Inspired heavily by my own take of the output of Warp Records and a lot of UK IDM and electronic music between 1997 up into 2004 (think Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plaid). Often orbiting around danceable 4/4 music.
- Moteng! is live, guitar/drums/noise stuff with Tengal
- .obat. is more meditative easy listens for background or foreground
- Maumo is a collab with Mauricio Takara mostly using Latent Sonorities RBI tunings

“A lot of these songs are improvised and I have forgotten the tunings for the guitar.  But I keep returning to these melodies and harmonies - they are maybe an echo of something I’ve heard before.”

Recorded over the course of 6 years in between other performances, tours, club nights, a pandemic and work commitments, these songs share in common the expression of a ‘complete statement’.  

Their final release here now for the first time, are inspired by albums like Prince’s post-humous, Piano and A Microphone 1983, Beck’s One Foot in the Grave or one of Kurt Cobain’s last known recordings outside a Nirvana release, Do Re Mi.

“A lot of these songs are inspired from demo tapes that me, Kurt Cobain and Prince made (not together obviously). Mostly just me and a piano or a guitar and my iPhone microphone. These are my take on the 90's pop and grunge I grew up listening to after moving to what is now called the United States of America.”

Small Devices

Morgan (he/him, USA/DE) is a practice-based music researcher whose output sits in the experimental field between academia and club music.

His work spans live electronic music, curation, lecture-workshops, panel discussions and the development of sample packs, tuning systems and other musical strategies to engage with materiality, diaspora, and the thoughtful resynthesis of new/traditional music.

Morgan's music productions draw from an archipelagic range of influences and intrinsic reverence for experimental computer dance music that can be described as playful, abrasive, promiscuous, feral and eclectic.

Last year, he released his debut album on Chinabot, which The Wire called "…a gently vaporous hulk of melancholia."

Morgan has performed at Cafe Oto, presented at CTM Festival, co-curated Soydivision's long-running Soy&Synth series, organized an online album co-release festival with folk-doom metal band Senyawa and 44 labels (mentioned in NYT, CDM), and was interviewed by Ableton about Latent Sonorities, a project that expands public access to sonic heritage for transcultural experimentation and research.
