"Fast One" by Renée Reed
 From her self-titled record coming March 26, 2021 via Keeled Scales. 

Renée Reed grew up on the accordion-bending knee of her band-leading grandfather Harry Trahan; in the middle of countless jam sessions at the one-stop Cajun shop owned by her parents Lisa Trahan and Mitch Reed; soaked in the storytelling of her great uncle, folklorist Revon Reed and his infamous brothers from Mamou; and surrounded by a litany of Cajun and Creole music legends, both backstage at the many festivals of Southwest Louisiana and on the porch of her family home. 

And while Renée's music is certainly informed by these deep roots, her dark dreamlike folk has more in common with contemporaries like Cate Le Bon and Jessica Pratt. It's also not unlike the intangible magic contained in Mazzy Star's songs.

Following their acclaimed debut Gweler Ein Gofid last year, Sheffield's Sister Wives return into the light with new Crags AA single on 10" vinyl, featuring two new songs - "Crags" and "I Fyny Af / Rise".

The single's title track is a nod to local prehistoric gorge, Creswell Crags, where witches marks were discovered in 2019. The marks, also known as protective marks, were found around dark holes and crevices in the caves and are thought to have been used as part of rituals to warn off evil forces.

The notions of protection and ancient ritual tie in with the songs the band were working on at the time. They explain, "Both “I Fyny Af / Rise” and "Crags" are about summoning the consciousness of the land in times of despair; calling upon the ancient gods that live in the rocks, woods, lakes, seas and trees, and exploring spiritual suspicions and witchcraft. We wanted to explore both sides: the fear of witches, and also defend these long vilified women."
 

Analogue evocations to Cymru’s sentient landscapes, from before the fall and after The Fall. Deep time and shallow graves. A coven dances around a burning holiday home to the strains of Hawkwind, Eno and Siouxsie. Astral projecting over the Green Desert. You are as far away as you will ever be from the world's madness.

Sister Wives have previously been invited to support The International Teachers of Pop, Crack Cloud, The Eccentronic Research Council, Current Affairs, Kaputt, Flasher, Porridge Radio, as well as featuring on Warp Records’ new music picks and regular play on BBC Wales and BBC Cymru.

  Mae teitl yr EP yn nod i geunant cynhanesyddol lleol i Sheffield, Creswell Crags, lle darganfuwyd marciau gwrachod yn 2019. Darganfuwyd y marciau, a elwir hefyd yn farciau amddiffynnol, o amgylch tyllau tywyll ac agennau yn yr ogofâu a chredir eu bod wedi'u defnyddio fel rhan o ddefodau i rybuddio grymoedd drwg.
