Dutch Uncles - Big Balloon

Manchester’s idiosyncratic art-popologists Dutch Uncles return with Big Balloon, their new studio album, on February 17 on Memphis Industries.
This week the band shares their latest single Streetlight. "'Streetlight' is about becoming content with your loneliness," Dutch Uncles' vocalist Duncan Wallis explains. "It’s about being skeptical, but aware and open to new chances at connecting again. It’s about realizing your own needs, possibly for the first time." 

Taking musical inspiration from Kate Bush's The Red Shoes, Low-era David Bowie, some slightly-less fashionable records belonging to their Dads and East European techno, Big Balloon is the fifth Dutch Uncles studio album and the follow-up to 2015's acclaimed O Shudder.

Big Balloon is the latest chapter in Dutch Uncles’ brilliantly witty, hip-swiveling, left-field adventures and was recorded in Manchester’s Old Granada TV Studios where Sex Pistols and Joy Division made their televisual debuts.

Big Balloon then is Dutch Uncles’ finest album to date, taking listeners on an exhilarating cerebral journey that marks them out a one of the UK’s most consistently forward thinking bands.

‘Away’ is the heavenly debut single by Shropshire’s finest Molly Linen – a brand new signing to Lost Map. Backed by the exclusive track ‘Over That Hill’, it will be sent out as part of the PostMap Club subscription service in May, as well as made available via all streaming services from May 24, 2019. 

Molly Linen is a songwriter and guitarist from the West Midlands, now based in Glasgow. She creates atmospheric, captivating and personal songs, led by melodic guitar lines and lulling yet hypnotic vocals, drawing influences from artists such as Devon Sproule and Nick Drake. Members of her band include Beth Chalmers, Caio Wheelhouse, Colin Campbell and Liam Chapman (who also drums with C Duncan). ‘Away’ and ‘Over That Hill’ were recorded by Ronan Fay at Green Door Studios in Glasgow. “‘Away’ touches on remembering some feelings of difference between myself and other people at a younger age,” Molly explains, “whilst ‘Over That Hill’ is about how climbing a hill can sometimes help me put things into perspective.” 

Molly Linen’s debut EP will be released later this year.

Lost Map Records welcome London-based French singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Clémentine March to the label roster, for the release of her eclectic, charming and truly cosmopolitan debut album Le Continent in January 2020. It’s preceded by the release of the title track as a PostMap postcard single in November 2019. ‘Le Continent’ Clémentine describes as “a personal account of a traveller who is trying to find her way everywhere in the world... melted with that strange spirit of the times we’re living. I wrote this song in 2017,” she says, “and it was – still is! – hard to avoid to overload of media anxiety about Brexit.” Phil MFU from the band Vanishing Twin contributes an organ part and an improvised freakout section in the middle of the song – and also a remix of ‘Le Continent’ exclusive to the postcard release.
