The November edition of our jungle event series, Right Time, was truly special for me. Having Tim Reaper as our guest was incredible, though it did add a bit of pressure regarding my own DJ set and what to play. Ultimately, I embraced spontaneity and played a mix of everything I've been enjoying lately from the worlds of jungle and hybrid 160 sounds. It was great to see all the positive reactions on the dancefloor and hear loads of lovely feedback after my set. It seemed many people enjoyed my rollercoaster of a selection, so I've decided to share this lovely memory on SoundCloud. Thank you once again to everyone who attended our Right Time event and made it such an amazing experience!

Various experiments around drum and bass and beyond. With the whole 2024 being a year of narrative/storytelling releases from me, I still find myself branch out in multiple different directions when working with the drum and bass tempos and rhythms.

It is depicted as the balancing act between two opposing strategies. Exploitation involves choosing the best option based on current knowledge of the system (which may be incomplete or misleading), while exploration involves trying out new options that may lead to better outcomes in the future at the expense of an exploitation opportunity. Finding the optimal balance between these two strategies is a crucial challenge in many decision-making problems whose goal is to maximize long-term benefits."

@kin_teal is a Budapest based producer, making organic and tactile music that’s rooted in club culture. Kin Teal as a project is meant to express the contrast and connection between nature and humanity, and juxtapose natural textures with machine-made ones. This sensibility is expressed via ever-twisting bass music with influences far and wide geographically and stylistically.
His live sets see him rearrange existing tracks into new constellations and explore unheard-before and improvised soundscapes.

Aikatherina (@katalin-nyikos) is a relatively new DJ in Hungary. She’s an omnivorous music lover who began selecting tracks six months ago. Her mixes include both new and old-school Jungle/Drum’n’Bass, but she has also played garage, 2-step, Ambient, and Jazz sets.

The video game Time Crisis was my main inspiration. As a child, we would go on holidays to Croatia, where we sometimes played air hockey at a modest local club. I immediately fell in love with the intro music of the only arcade machine there. Although I never played the game, I knew the melody by heart. Years later, when Jungle/DnB opened my eyes to new sounds, I tried to translate this childhood experience into a DJ set.

A niche vinyl mix in the 170 territory, filled with fast paced unforgiving frequencies and beats, which are later dissolved into surprisingly soothing sounds - enforcing the true essence of the underground bass music, and togetherness / resisting the cheap and consumerist attempts of our alienated scene. Special thanks for the request to Tempo Radio: BNDK and M.M., for pushing the boundaries of our Budapest DJ community by choosing creativity and realness over ego - keep it real guys!

We’re excited to present the next installment of the Sonic Spells series, featuring a contribution from Adam Salamøn – Wrocław’s multifaceted wizard of sound. His meticulous attention to detail is truly inspiring, evident especially in the renowned events organized by the późno collective which he is a part of. These events provide a cohesive blend of sound, visuals, scent, and storytelling, creating a rich, multi-sensory experience for Wrocław’s audiences. For this mix, Adam has curated a composition largely made up of his own works, and the result is, in our humble opinion, absolutely captivating.

About Mentalien:

As many DJs, Mentalien had already been a music freak at a young age. After a while his addiction focused mostly on jungle and drum&bass. Momentous tunes, like Inner City Life, Warhead or Friday made him fall in love with the genre so much that he started to collect records when he was 16. Later he widened his musical palette and started digging deeper in other genres like uk garage, house, techno and many other exciting styles which fit into the ’bass music’ category. Mentalien has been active in the Hungarian scene as a radio presenter and as a journalist as well. He has written articles, reviews and made interviews for the country’s well known music webzine, called Impulsecreator, aka drumandbass.hu, which was established back in 1999, and for various printed magazines. He is running a jungle and drum&bass radio show together with DJ Ren, called Dzsungel Konyve, it’s on air bi-weekly on Hungary’s biggest independent FM station, Tilos Radio. All through the years he played alongside many of his musical heroes, like Calibre, Machinedrum, D-Bridge, MJ Cole, Fracture, DJ Flight, DJ Storm, Zed Bias, Wookie, Marcus Intalex, El-B, Rockwell, DJ Marky, DJ EZ, Lenzman, Goldie, Oneman, DJ Die, Kingdom, Roska, Boddika and many more. When it comes to DJing, his vibe usually is very vocal, soulful and rolling, but he can be the man of extremes as well, and switch to darker, more experimental and industrial sounds.
