This week presented the talented Jake Beautyman. Raised on the minimal sounds of the original tech scene, Jake has many of his own productions already under his belt with new vinyl releases just out and more to come throughout the year. He has played alongside many of the Tech House originators that are all eager to have him on their lineups. He has most recently played for MR.C for the 20th anniversary of Superfreq and is also supported by the main man of original Tech House, Terry Francis

A self-taught musician, he learnt his trade as a DJ on a pair of Soundlabs back in the '90s and with 20 years of music knowledge under his belt. His encyclopedic house sets are as educated as they come.

A well-connected, amicable guy who always lets the music do the talking, James has amassed countless friends on the UK dance scene over the years, helping to throw parties and linking up with leading industry figures at the world's most important club events.

A lover of music for the right reasons, he prides himself on being a versatile DJ who can read a dancefloor and control a crowd any time of day or night. A master of sexy yet earthy percussive grooves, he's as careful to please a dancefloor as he is of preserving his own values as a renowned vibe creator.

“I want to make others feel the way I feel when listening or playing music. Witness the satisfaction people have through my judgement of music,” said James when asked about his love of DJing.

As a proper warm-up to our first ever Dekmantel Festival São Paulo 2017 adventure in February, we've asked five Brazilian locals for a mini mix-series we'll be hosting in the upcoming months. We're happy to welcome the first artist in our series, who’s part of our line-up: Ney Faustini.

Faustini is the type of DJ that makes selection one of his strongest statements and the weaving of a cohesive narrative his main trait. It is easier to try and discover what this São Paulo native hasn’t played in one of his eclectic sets, instead of what he has. Expect classic Brazilian music, avant-garde techno and everything in between.

Episode 94 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by 2Vilas aka Hector Avila & Carlos Vila. Hector, born in Ibiza and Carlos, born in Majorca met after working as sound and light technicians for Pacha Ibiza in 2008. Soon afterwards, both realized that each had a mutual love and talent for music and decided to begin an after party in Ibiza. From the very first set played together in 2008, a great musical collaboration was discovered by successfully merging together each one's style. Since then, Hector and Carlos have joined forces to form 2Vilas. They began producing and within a very short period of time have already released tracks with record labels: Isgud Records, Bondage Music, Straight Music, Anhura Records and WetCellarRecords.

When we sat down with the guys, we asked how the mix represents them as an artists, they replied with “This mix is us 100%, it’s a vinyl only set, some records are from stores, such as Can Vinilo - Dacha or Subwaxbcn, some records are promo’s from friends and some records are from our new productions on our vinyl label (Wax isgud - Isla Records)”.

The guys went on to explain, what the House Gangster movement means to them “We have been following the house gangster movement for a long time… its old school, it sounds  Chicago, it sounds like the island and some of our influences in the studio come from here.”

Native Peruvian Matthew Lima is joining us for this biweekly edition of our Source to Cycle podcast series.  Matthew spent his formative years in Italy and was heavily influenced by the music and cultural scene eventually taking the stage at many of the top clubs all over the country in the early part of the decade. By 2014, his interest had expanded to the production side as well and started working in the studio in a collaboration with Neverdogs and Martin Patino but also began to play more broadly all over Europe and Asia. Matthew has launched his own party series “Naked Mind” based in Milano as well as founded a label Amazing Music Recordings. Each operator was put in a perilous position, it was only the sound of their voice which might lead to a resolution to whatever tragedy had struck on the other end of the line. She observed the scene from the corner of the room with a nervous smile.
