About this journey:
In the past 1.5 years, time passes differently than before. Slower and faster at the same time. No one was really prepared for this form of a global pandemic, a global crisis. It’s a long and tough wait, sometimes hoping and fearing. Existences are threatened directly or indirectly. For me, it also shows how little capacity the global North has in dealing with existential crises. Norms and moral boundaries are shifting, revealing all their ambiguity and hypocrisy. Many people in the global South are still waiting for vaccines, and here millions are not getting vaccinated out of irrational fears and assumptions. Terms like dictatorship are grossly distorted. Freedom is demanded, but it means selfishness, lack of empathy, bossiness and malice. There’s a loud and aggressive, hyperpivileged minority that screams the loudest. But people die in silence. A simple and frightening logic.  It is a matter of time. It is about patience. It's about courage. About renunciation. About each and every one. What exactly music and art can achieve in this disturbing time, we all define.

Welcome travelers, allow us to uncover for you the world of Eleusis, the second LP of the french multi-instrumentalist and producer Hajna, a full length 1 hour narrative conceptual adventure, a journey through the deepness of our minds in the form of a unique music alchemy to delight our ears.  

The Eleusinian Mysteries exist as a forgotten tale but also an initiatory journey. The invitation is for you to take a trip through the deep forests and temples of the ancient Greece, come and follow the path of sound through the night and uncover the answers you are seeking.  

Hajna, the artist, focuses on producing deep electronic magical stories, full of organic percussions, cinematic quotes and hypnotic rhythms that invite the listener to dive into an ocean of diverse textures and smooth beats, from downtempo to folktronica and subtle side-trips: a mystical journey from beginning to end.

Premiere | Ahau | Nostalgia De Amazonas (Nat Barrera Remix) [Cosmotech Records]

This is my one minute piece for the theme ‘Journey’. I use the theme in two different ways during the piece. Firstly in a literal sense in that it is set on a train, with the beginning and end of the piece marking the beginning and end of a train journey. Secondly, during this train journey the traveller falls asleep, and the piece then takes a journey through their dream world, before waking again. 
My three one minute source sound files include a morning recording from the bush at my parents house, in which there is a general outdoor ambience with many varying bird songs and calls. The second is a recording of a train approaching a train station, and includes the train sound as it approaches and stops as well as its horn and road crossing bells. The third is a recording from a restaurant in which there is a persistence of general chatter, with the clinking of cutlery and glasses and the odd piece of conversation that stands out. 
The intro and outro to the piece build the start and end of the literal journey, and are made up simply of the sound of the train as well as its horn blow. To enter the dream journey I looped the horn and placed an automated pitch shifter to gradually bring it down in pitch until it got to a point that it was unrecognisable which then triggered the dream state. The exit from the dream was simply the same horn loop reversed with opposite automation. Also during this loop a continuous low rumble, an EQ’d loop of general ambience from the restaurant recording, was introduced to compliment the event of transferring from reality to dream.
The dream journey was comprised of a number of elements. There was 4 continuous tracks that layered together to make the general ambience of the dream world; the low rumble as mentioned before, a section of plain restaurant chatter, a heavily reverbed section of the outdoor ambience, and  another section of restaurant chatter with chorus and phaser to create an exaggerated etheric quality. Also behind these I used a thud from the restaurant track, with EQ and compression added, to imitate a heart-beat like sound, to keep a sense of this being someone’s experience. 
Finally, I used three different sounds which form the actual elements of the dream. The first is a bird call built up from a single bird call using pitch shifting, with reverb, flanging and delay added. The second is a part of the train horn with EQ, pitch shift and reverb added so it sounds a bit like a phone ringing. And the third is a voice from the restaurant, using X-noise to try and reduce some of the background noise as well as EQ to isolate the voice, and a reverb and delay. The effects used on these elements are all to try and keep the etheric, dream like nature of the piece intact.
