With Bailey Ibbs "Helter Skelter" EP, the London-based DJ and producer lands his debut on VOITAX. After having released a variety of tunes on labels such as Practical Rhythms and Dansu Discs, including the launch of his label – Night Service, the ambitious young talent keeps adding to the newer UK Garage scene. With the VOI 026 Bailey demonstrates once again that he has proven himself to be a serious representative that yet doesn’t seem to bind himself to any particular genre. His latest EP now opens up doors to the sunnier season of the year and serves you a skillfully produced mixture of Dubstep, Dancehall, House, and punchy breaks.

Trying to pigeonhole this man is about as difficult as it would be to actually fit him into a pigeon sized hole. As soon as we heard his track on the amazing Scotland VA from the big dons over at Midnight Bass, it was clear that this dude was not worrying about which subgenre his music fitted into. He makes good music, plain and simple, and this is something we have always tried to champion at Mercurial. His understanding of mood, tone and energy cannot be overstated. These are all incredibly hard things to quantify, but are often what takes an artist to the next level, and OHARE seems to have them on lock. Whether it’s on Resonate, with its aggressive low-end and ethereal highs, or Rough Up, a true homage to the frenetic, choppy jungle of yesteryear, or the completely infectious Do It Like, begging you to find a dancefloor and bust some shapes, OHARE’s style and sound is instantly recognisable, and never fails to impress. Their sound takes influence from both the old-school break orientated productions of Jungle and also the more technical electronic aspects found in modern production. It is the fusion of techniques, the constant and ever evolving rural drum&bass scene of Herefordshire and a deep love of the music that has inspired this aggressive and unique take.

Scuffed Recordings line up the fifth release in the Scuffed Presents compilation series, looking ahead to 2021 with four new artists to the label, and sounds ranging from broken bass, UK garage, rave-inspired breaks, and rolling techno.

The ‘Scuffed Presents’ VA compilations have become a yearly fixture in the Scuffed Recordings schedule - with previous Scuffed Presents alumni including such Scuffed mainstays as Nikki Nair, Dubrunner, and An Avrin - and Scuffed Presents 005 will bring four more exciting new artists into the Scuffed roster.

Opening the release is Austrian producer Awo Ojiji, a longstanding member of the Graz-based collective Disko404 who released his debut ‘Static Flow’ EP in 2020 on Eternal Ocean. His unique interpretation of broken, bass-led techno on ‘Woozy’ marks him out as an artist to watch in 2021.

Londoner Doctor Nick will be a name familiar to those with their ears to the ground of UK dance music in the last few years, with previous appearances on Super Kitchen, Strictly Flava, and Slime Recordings among others. On ‘Squelch’, Nick creates an addictive fusion of classic UKG skippiness with a springy 303 bassline.

Next up is Maya Q, a resident of London collective Co-Select, and an artist whose idiosyncratic approach to production is evident all over ‘Belief’; where she pairs weighty subs and driving breaks with twisted vocal samples and eerie pads.

Rounding off the compilation is Moscow-based Dawn Razor, whose impressive workrate has recently landed him appearances on labels like Holding Hands and R&S. ‘Dreamproof’ is a rolling techno slammer and the perfect way to close out the release.
