BBC 1xtra 'In New DJ's We Trust' Producers Focus On Mercurial Myrmidon

Leicester-born rapper Strizzy Strauss began his musical journey exploring his parents' music collection, particularly drawn to the early American Hip Hop his father listened to. 

Growing up in the UK Garage era and observing the sound of rapping in a British accent becoming the norm was something that resonated with him. Witnessing the local success of peers and the commercial rise of UK Hip Hop/Grime on platforms such as Channel U and MTV Base inspired Strizzy to start writing his own lyrics. 

His creative journey began during his time at university, taking advantage of the opportunity of regular access to a recording studio, recording his first underground projects ‘Voice Of A Wrecked Generation’ and ‘Life In Lyrical Content.’ 

Mastering the art of writing and recording his own songs gave Strauss the confidence to start releasing his music and sharing his story with the world. The East Midlands-based rapper then officially burst onto the scene in 2017 with a sense of fresh artistic confidence to deliver his debut seven-track EP, “The Art of Summarising Life,” filled with raw energy, thought-provoking lyrics, and hard-hitting beats. 

This helped garner a strong local following and positive critiques across the industry, and by 2020, Strauss released his successful LP “Trust the Process,” including singles ‘Hieroglyphics’, ‘Gems’ and ‘Driven’. All tracks received strong support on the airwaves with features from BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio and more. But ‘Driven’ and its cinematic visuals (Shot by We The Conspirators) really showed what Strauss can do creatively, with the emotional masterpiece being featured and debuted on the well-renowned online media outlet ‘Complex UK’. 

With his most recent album, “Love is the Currency,” Strauss is cementing his place in the UK Hip Hop scene. A family of distinctive jazz-fuelled sounds and Hip Hop beats is the landscape of his captivating stories and powerful messages that aim to inspire, motivate, and change the world for the better. The album, produced by ‘Rabbs,’ features a range of sounds, great artists, and really embodies the album's title.


“This has taken 3 years to craft. In my humble opinion, my BEST and most PERSONAL work yet. This one goes so much deeper than my previous projects, touching on the 25% I keep to myself.” 

Whilst the project is very personal, it remains relatable as Strauss delves deep into personal experiences and societal themes, sharing those thoughts and feelings we tend to keep to ourselves. His honesty and bravery connect with his audience through its introspective nature, encouraging personal growth, success, and an abundance of love.

With personal influences stemming from distant corners of the world such as South America (Mexico) And The Caribbean (Trinidad And Tobago), Benjamin Padilla And Uriah Smith together known as Mercurial Myrmidon carefully infuse these influences to create their own original up-front sound.

With their music being played as far afield as The United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia it is clear Mercurial Myrmidon are creating music that will stand the test of time.
