Poker Flat Recordings welcomes back the ever-prolific Alex Niggemann for another speaker-troubling dispatch. This time out, the Aoen and Soulfooled boss drops a hea- vy–duty release that more than lives up to his usual high standards.
'Materium' is epic in every sense of the word- a sprawling, tough journey into analog tech- no – with a dash of house thrown in. It rips through the speakers – the crisp and aggres- sive production provides the space for grow- ling synths and atmospheric, tense pads. What’s more, the whole track audaciously dissolves into silence mid way through – be- fore exploding back into life via a descending analog synth line.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Called INSTANT fryhide, it will see one special, much talked about track get an instant release with no promo, premiers or press announcements in advance. There will be no schedule for releases and it will see music put out as fast as possible whenever there is a track that suits the concept. The first one comes from ARTBAT aka Ukrainian pair Artur and Batish. Says HOSH himself… "As you know fryhide comes from the German word 'Freiheit' meaning 'freedom'. With INSTANT fryhide we go a step further and really want to have this freedom of releasing whenever we feel like. Away from the classic way of releasing with long schedules and special timeframes and having to wait for the right b-side etc, we believe a strong track doesn't need that nowadays. As these tracks have already been tested on the road and social media probably did the rest… they are good to go immediately." October 13th 2017 sees the esteemed German Techno DJ/producer Oliver Huntemann find himself on the cusp of yet a new era in his career with the release of his fifth album entitled, ‘Propaganda’.

'Propaganda' is Huntemann’s fifth long-player, and like each of its predecessors, it shows a different side to one of the most consistently rewarding names in Techno. Huntemann explains, “The sound of Propaganda is more grown up, I’ve left the times of reducing to the max behind to create a certain atmosphere throughout the whole album. Of course most tracks work well on the dancefloor but the task was also to make them as interesting as possible for listening sessions - simply to reach another level.”

Released on his own Senso Sounds label, the album exudes the level of assurance that perhaps only comes with being so active in curating and developing a label that has stood out from the masses since its inception in 2014.

'Propaganda' opens with 'Taktik', and the mood is quickly established through crisp motorik drum programming and deep, pulsing bass lines. 'Poltergeist' - the 2nd cut, continues this aesthetic - a deep and spacious groover.

Clocking in at over 1 hour 15 minutes, the 12-tracker allows a lot of space for itself, each tracking having the time it needs to develop and unfold. 'Egoist' ramps up the feel somewhat with intricate melodies and effects, before breaking down into something that will destroy many dance floors. Yet the beauty of the album format is that it allows for various mood changes, and 'Malaria' brings us something of a shift into a more freaked out and edgy vibe, while 'Anonym' highlights Huntemann’s mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient / downbeat interlude. 'Rotlicht' is perhaps a standout for fans of Huntemann’s epic DJ sets, exhibiting all the control and release dynamic that make him such an engaging performer. It’s also clearly a key cornerstone for the entire album.

Next up is 'Absurd', followed by 'Manipulation' - both reference the exquisite sound design Huntemann instils into his precision-built tracks, while remaining primed for club use at all times. 'Momentum' switches up the tempo, perhaps influenced by more experimental, no wave and krautrock sources - and serving as punctuation before the album's final triptych. 'Vertigo' sees shimmering arpeggiated synths skip across a solid rhythm track, while 'Doppelgänger' builds a delicious tension through constant pads and pulsing, blocky bass tones. 'Trick17' ultimately rounds off 'Propaganda', - an expanse of emotionally charged techno with Huntemann’s signature feel woven into its fabric.

After two strong releases from upcoming talents, Innellea and BOg, including the hugely successful remix from Mathias Schober, the third offering on TAU comes from label heads, Adana Twins. ‘Risen’ sees the Adana Twins signature sound delivered in the form of a 3-Track EP, aimed firmly at the dancefloor with thunderous rolling drum beats and stabbing synth tones.

The release follows the Adana Twins’ delivery of the twenty-fifth edition of the infamous Watergate mix series, packed full of exclusive, unreleased tracks as well as three of their own originals. Included in the compilation, their mind-blowing remix of Patrice Bäumel’s decade-old track ‘Roar’ has been received with huge support, currently sitting in Top 10 overall on Beatport.

Simplistic in nature, the Adana Twins have stripped back their sound to provide an EP which at times touches on influences from Trance. Opening track ‘Pavan’ displays these features best, as the synth tones build into a firm and solid kick drum.

‘Maestro’ delivers a more robust sound, with heavy bass line primed for the peak time hours. ‘Ebrietas’ showcases Adana Twins finer abilities to mix between the lines of Trance and Techno, incorporating the industrial nature of the duo’s previous productions.

The EP has been the Adana Twins secret weapon within their record bag for many months, delivering countless spine-tingling moments on the dancefloor. ‘Risen’ EP demonstrates that the forward-thinking duo are in tune with the times, whilst also push- ing forward their own unique sound.

Mathame refine their singular sound on ‘Skywalking’ and a collaboration with Tale Of Us, ‘Departure’.
Following 2018’s ‘Nothing Around Us’ single, Mathame show no sign of slowing down. Their Afterlife Recordings follow up is a dancefloor single of epic proportions, taking the duo further into a realm of their own. Tension hangs off the sliding chords and spacious arrangements. In the case of ‘Skywalking’ it reaches an uplifting, euphoric crescendo, in Tale Of Us’ intro edit of ‘Departure’ the theme goes darker and off-kilter. Bona fide anthems in the sets of Mathame and Tale Of Us.

A product of the transformative power of dance music, Ede moved Berlin after he experienced something magical while dancing to Ame at Berghain. So enchanted was he by the pivotal moment that he set his sights on making music to be released by Innervisions... And that hap- pened three years later when his track ‘Jenny’ made it into the label’s ‘Secret Weapons 11’ compilation. Ede’s dark, new wave style has also piqued the interest of Jennifer Cardini, who signed his music to a V/A on her Correspondant Music label recently. Now the producer joins the TAU family for a full EP, featuring four original cuts.

‘Raum’ jumpstarts the collection with menacing allure. Whirring analogue forms the core of this deadly track, keeping it tight in the low end while various layers of synth fizz and snarl. An urgent riff joins the fray, adding depth and energy. Across almost 10 minutes Ede showcases his ability to create a dark atmosphere and imbue his music with spinetingling theatrics. Fans of the riff will be pleased to find a beatless version of ‘Raum’, which will be useful for creating dramatic moments during DJ sets no doubt.

On side B, ‘Zeit’ brings the pace down slightly. A melancholy synth line evokes feelings of sorrow, while the beat pumps along. Ede uses the full 8 minutes of this track to really build the tension, finally unleashing it halfway through. This could easily be used on the soundtrack for a cyborg action movie set in the future.

Last up, ‘Unendlichkeit’ is a further demonstration of Ede’s love of futurism, new wave and film noir circa 2080. Here he tells a story with the machines, each one adding their contribution to the narrative which gets more and more chaotic as the tune progresses.

A very impressive EP, and we’re sure you’ll agree it’s something quite special.

Contrary to traditional music labels, Mercurial Tones is about these experiences which are simultaneously fleeting and enduring, dislocating and connecting.  

The Mercurial Tones is about us; it is about the ceaseless battle that we fight with ourselves, creating this Mercurial cacophony. And it is about our story which will resonate throughout the universe, carving out a piece of art from this formless, anarchic background.
