TOR and the When We Dip team are eager to announce the label’s signature release series with the inaugural Tales of Romance VA. As we set the early foundations of TOR’s sound and creative direction, this release is our unveiling of the pillars of the imprint in the years to come. The series will serve as the hub of our long-term artist relationships, fostering a collective of forward-thinking and bountiful producers, and providing a platform for exploration.

Wassu will always hold a special mantle at the TOR imprint, as the man who launched the label with his Andu EP. The New Yorker has turned heads over the last year with a string of enthralling releases on the likes of Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Immersed. He has a firm grasp on warm melodies, crafting smooth and gracious high ends, which he rests on sturdy grooves and boastful basslines. No Silence: In this track Mollono.Bass fills the aural space around the voice of singer Kuoko as if his groove was a liquid that flows around the contours of a mould. The Super Flu remix works just the other way around. First, the duo initiates a pulsating force field of bass and enigmatic hints of melody. The voice of Kuoko creates only fine ripples on the surface of the time-space-continuum, before it breaks through around the middle. Stephan Zovsky's remix of Your Smile draws a wonderful contrast to this deeply hypnotic atmosphere. As a close friend of Mollono.Bass he has a deep understanding of the melodic soul of the original, which enables him to translate this soul into his very own style in an extremely elegant way. Driven by open hi hats and the bite of the snare we're hurled into a bouncing state of collective euphoria where the corners of our mouths and our arms are pulled upwards by some sort of magnetic force.

No, but seriously: Whatever you might think, for me this is part of my life condensed in music and since it's almost impossible to find singers who want to work on their vocals more than 2 takes it was a practical choice to use my own voice.

As always, it's great to hear such a huge amount of music coming from Ireland, and this week we visit Cork as we premiere the latest track from Sean Drinan, which is an atmospheric house release, and a much needed mid-week perk. 

Sean Drinan is a 23 year old Irish producer and over the last three years he has solely focused on honing his production skills, taking influences from the likes of Mall Grab, Ejeca, FJAAK and Ross From Friends. 

He doesn’t tie himself to a specific sound or genre, with his tracks ranging in style from high intensity, euphoric tracks such as ‘Mega Deal’ to dusty, mellow, lo-fi tracks, which makes for a diverse catalogue of productions.

With releases on Houz and Zone Focus, as well as a number of features on Moskalus and Berlin House Music, he also has a number of self releases via Soundcloud.

Our one-half freezes in endless darkness, while the other half glitters with a perfect shade of orange under the rays of our one and only sun. We thus become the Mercurials. We live through different tones of life, swinging from ice to fire.

Certain life experiences evoke certain emotions, and these emotions, at once, push thoughts to the surface - thoughts that puncture our life. An experience thus turns into an anchor that we hold fast and remember forever.

Contrary to traditional music labels, Mercurial Tones is about these experiences which are simultaneously fleeting and enduring, dislocating and connecting.  

The Mercurial Tones is about us; it is about the ceaseless battle that we fight with ourselves, creating this Mercurial cacophony. And it is about our story which will resonate throughout the universe, carving out a piece of art from this formless, anarchic background.
