This is a cover of a song performed by The Wailin' Jennys, a group that hails from the city in which I live - Winnipeg. This song has become a bit of a choral staple in Manitoba, and hopefully beyond. 

I recorded this version in 2022, while I was on vacation in Prince Edward Island (special thanks to Trinity United in Summerside for letting me use their sanctuary as a recording space). It has taken me this long to finish putting it together because one section accidentally got deleted, and I've been struggling with vocal dysfunction for most of the last year, and wasn't able to add in the missing piece (but that's a whole other story).  

I originally recorded this with the hope of sharing it with my dear Great Auntie Hellen, who is now 99 years old. Unfortunately, the delay in putting it together has resulted in the likelihood that she will never hear it, as she has now lost most of her hearing. Whenever I record a song, I think of her anyway, as playing recordings over the phone for her was a part of a nightly ritual in our family for quite some time.

My parents still listen to my songs, and they are beyond deserving of a dedication, so this time, I will post this song for them. The music they listened to and performed when I was a kid had a huge impact on how my life, and this a cappella folk style very much reminds me of them and that childhood. 

So, Mom and Dad, if you have discovered this, I hope that you enjoy listening to it, and that you know how deeply cherished you are. I love you forever. <3
